Hi Hibby!
This is only the 2nd Model 81E we've ever seen, making these likely the "rarest of the rare" when it comes to 8/81 factory engraved guns. The previous rifle was from around 1947, #32564

Re: WRA Co. Remington Model 8 .32
There is another Winchester owned Model 8 that was verified by Remington...it was a later gun #15093 in 35Rem and although the "WRA Co." was engraved in a different location, there have almost identical cursive font and arrangement of date engraved. I'd say this rifle is LEGIT.

The rifle was made in either 1914 or 1915, to know the exact year go back to that page I linked and compare the rifle's full serial number against the "last serial numbers for each year of production".

Remington's inspectors/fitters used a variety of approval stamps. There is nothing US Navy about this gun. It's strictly commercial.

Re: Head scratcher on Gunbroker
With the evidence suggested by Hibby, I'd learn towards an old serial number alteration. I can't recall seeing many, if any, Model 8 serial numbers in that location that left the factory without proof marks above and/or below the serial number. That's very unusual. Plus the "Y" prefix that...

Looking at examples of Model 8's across 4 decades its easy to see a world of variation in buttstock configurations. From grip style but to butt plates.
