Welcome... and bout time she was taken out for some air. ;) If she is a Model 8 (which seems likely from your description... pictures would help significantly) and the serial number is 36063, she is almost 100yrs old... made in 1915. Starting in 1921 (and with all the M81s) Remington stamped letters...

Roger's point is a good one about already having an extra hole keeps you from the top dollars but there's something about holes in the side of the receiver that does a lot more damage to value and looks IMHO... but it is yours to do as you see fit. Don't have one taken apart right now but pretty sure the base of the front sight is secured by rivets... relatively easy fix once the barrel assembly is taken apart. (Unless my memory is gone too and it was soldered.... :? ) Great job on your pictures, very tempting... but kind of favor the bed over...

Yup it's a SIN!! You want one with a scope holes I got some, most with mounting brackets and several with scopes... wanta trade? Bottom line, finding these rifles with extra holes for scope mounts is easier then finding originals. Plus when you start drilling you are burning dollars, with holes she'...

Even for a 25Rem that is a bunch... nice battle scars... not seeing any abuse or extra holes - I'd call it original. And, looks like the price of a full collection of Model 8's just got another shot in the arm!

Looks like most importantly... a happy camper. :D Great job. Mine looks very much like yours, 'cept I ended up with a Savage barrel and an A5 butt pad - I was surprised at what a sweet shooter it is. Love seeing these old ones fixed up and used.

1965, my first and second car were '57 Pontiac Super Chief, 347 (both ready for "Tri-Power" but they never got it, found a manifold but never $s for the electric fuel pump and carbs). Drove a 65 Lemans once, it was very fast.

Just returned from visiting family and friends... was a very different Christmas then the previous 22 from here behind enemy lines and what a great one it was. :D
