Re: 5 round magazine remington 81 .35 cal

Great looking there Joe! And just as a follow up to what he said, the magazine in the auction is for an early Model 8 (with no provision for side springs). Now this could essentially work in a Model 81, but the magazines for Model 81's came with a left and right side spring not like the one in the a...

Re: Remingtom M81 Front Sling Swivel Mounting

Remington began putting sling swivel holes in Model 8 barrel jackets by late 1920. Conceivably you could drill & tap any Model 8 barrel jacket that didn't already have a swivel hole. The ones that are tapped are done so through the barrel jacket reinforcement (also called the barrel jacket plug)...

Re: bolt head rotation problem

If you hold the bolt 1/2 back you can use a tool (or your fingers) to rotate the bolt head forward. This happens quite often and is one of the easiest fixes. I'll quote the manual on this one... "If lugs on bolt do not enter slot in barrel extension, move Safety off: draw back operating handle ...

Obviously, you would not want to squeeze down tightly. Hence the reason you sometimes find 8/81's with chewed up barrel nuts or cracked barrel nuts. A lot of guys in the past didn't take the care & precaution like Dwalt did to protect the nut and that's a good part to inspect before buying one ...
