Re: Great Model 8 MEET & GREET!!!

I plan on being there. I'll stop by - are you guys going to be on the lower level at the south end like usual?

Tell Jack all the best deals were at the last show.......

Re: FN 1900 with scope bracket, value issue

Thank you, Jack. If I was a serious collector, such as yourself, I'd really consider one like this. It is a good example to illustrate a period solution to attaching optics to what was then a new rifle design. It was handmade, and not something that could be purchased off the shelf. But be aware, ha...

Re: Barrel Swap between a 8 and an 81 both in .35 Rem

I do know a Model 8/81 barrel can be fitted onto an FN 1900 and made to work.

Re: FN 1900 with scope bracket, value issue

Those mounts are your usual European claw mount. They were probably fitted when the rifle was originally purchased, and if I was looking to buy it, I'd consider it to be quite in character with a piece of that period, and actually make it a little more interesting. Just because it isn't exactly as i...

Rob, you are right about loading the shells vertically. A friend showed me how to do this recently - really a "duh" moment for me. They load as easily as anything else.

Re: Anyone hunt deer with the .25 Remington?

I shot a nice doe with my .25 two days ago. Snap shot at 50 yards, right through the shoulder, double lung hit, exiting on the far side. She ran 50 yards, and fell over dead, just what you would expect. The great thing about the .25 is the lack of meat damage with the relatively slow moving bullet. ...

Re: Making .32 Remington Brass

That little lathe would be OK for doing the rim cuts to make your brass. However, they are kinda fiddly to use. I have a 7X10 which I use occasionally for little stuff if the 14X40 is tied up, plus it will cut 27tpi and the bigger machine won't. I have small hands, but find the little machine very c...

Re: 25rem 115gn hollow point from 117gn sptz

The 117 grain Hornadys are like hens' teeth right now. With that in mind (and saving my last two boxes for deer), I got some 120 HP's with a cannelure that are made for the 25-06. They are too long in front of the cannelure for a Model 8. I made a little collet for the lathe and parted them off flat...

Re: Buffer springs

imfuncity The 13 coil spring I can compress is the buffer spring, the first one you load in the jacket, before you load the recoil spring case and the recoil spring. It is quite easily compressed between your fingers - it's only about 2 1/2" long. I pulled a 25 down to check. The recoil spring ...

Re: Buffer springs

One I have here has 13 coils, and is quite soft. I can fully compress it between my fingers. This may be for a 25.

Re: Buffer springs

So, would the same buffer spring be used for a .25 and the .32? Even though the .32 bullet is half as heavy again.

Re: 32 Dies

The shell dimensions are different between the two when it comes to FL resizing, just like the .25 and the 25-35 won't interchange.

Buffer springs

I am kind of new to Model 8s, and have a handful of spares I've picked up.

My question is: are the 25 and 30/32 buffer springs the same? I have a 35 spring, and it is much heavier than the other two I have, but I'm not sure what caliber they are from

Wow - a grand for that one!

Does anyone know if the four filled holes on the left side of the receiver are original to that time of manufacture? I don't know enough about these old things yet.

Re: SAAMI drawing

I don't think you need a SAAMI drawing to do the cases. I just made some .25's from .30-30, and they work well. Can't read drawings anyway. I ran them into a 7X57 die with no neck expander to start the process, then ran them into the FL sizer, but just far enough that they will headspace on the fron...
