Most Model 8 parts should work directly or with minor modification/fitting. The checkering is not the original FN pattern, but done sometime later.

There is only 1 FN we have on file in South Africa, #1111 which was painted black and is in poor condition. I'm curious to know more about yours.

Great clarification Jack. It makes sense what was going on with what you showed. Still again, this rifle has an incredible history and is truly a one-of-a-kind. It's certainly the most elaborate FN 1900 I've ever seen.

Isn't it crazy how fixing the bolt handle literally changes the look of the entire gun?! It looks SO much better. Kudos to Jack and your machinist.

So glad a forum member ended up with this! Congrats! Hey...any FN is a treasure and that one has so much character. If it could talk!
When it originally sold via Amoskeag in 2017 the scope mount was marked "J.ALBRECHT/DETMOLD". Never heard of that one

Long Recoil Stayin' Alive?
An AR10 style rifle but utilizing long recoil for reduced recoil. Say it ain't so! "we call it modern long recoil because if you take some of Browning's old designs and you evolve them into our century, this is what you would end up with" - Olympus Arms, Helena, MT https://www.youtube.com/...

Definitely some "franken-guning" going on there. For one, practically every screw head and pin are boogered. The wear of the trigger plate and magazine are drastically different. The forearm, stock, and trigger plate are all obviously Model 8 items.

SUPER late serial number, very cool. When was your rifle actually manufactured? No way to know definitively since it doesn't have a date code. Keep in mind the oddity with serial numbers and date codes. Receivers were made and serialized, however, they could sit for months or years even before being...

Ok, that would be roll stamped on the barrel extension. That was faded out around 1910 with some outlying examples in subsequent years.

There are no verified 25Rem Police 8 or 81's nor are there any references to them in POEC or Remington historical literature. 30Rem or 35Rem were the choices. We do have a photos of the modified trigger plates and receiver internals of both a POEC 8 and a Special Police 81 in the below article... ht...

Re: 25-35 R stamping?
Great question. The "25-35 Remington" nomenclature didn't last long. Since changes on these rifles are nearly all transitional, you don't see many guns marked 25-35 after 1910, but there are some exceptions. However, if you're talking about early guns with caliber markings hand engraved on...
