Very nice rifle, my advice is to think long and hard about selling that gun - knowing the history as you do.

Lots of great info on this site, as well as a WTB/WTS section.
If you can track down a copy of Henwood's book, there is hours of reading and tons of obscure info

Re: Loose Barrel Jacket Fix

Old thread revival! My Model 8 in 25 Remington, DOB 1910, has the barrel and extension nut brazed or soldered together. The joint area clearly has a silverish looking ring of material visible all around the joint area. Furthermore there is no pin in the joint area. I'm thinking this was the way it c...

Re: To disassemble or not?

IMO, the barrel/jacket are easier to take down than the rest of the gun - if you are creative and handy, a barrel nut tool can be homemade out of an old socket. I used one that I homemade for years until I purchased a reproduction spanner tool from remcrazy here on the board. Knowing the crap I've r...

Did you get it Hibby?
Going to Minnesota

$600 was a pretty good price (esp in Kanukastan dollars), of course taxes, buyers fee and shipping will add close to 40% to the price - still not bad

Here in Canada, Model 8 prices seem to have suddenly shot through the roof. Your gun here would probably fetch $1000-$1200 in "outstanding" condition - even more if it were in 35 Even poor condition Mdl 8s are selling in the 5-800 dollar area. That being said, I would advise against sellin...

I followed ranman's advice and sourced an early auto 5 buttstock. It's not a perfect fit as the "shoulders" (cheeks?) are proud where they meet the receiver - a fair bit of sanding and then a refinish would have to be done. Still, I'm pleased with the look of it now https://i.imgur.com/6DA...
