Hello Rob, I noticed this tang sight as well. It was the first time that I have ever seen this type of base on a Lyman tang sight myself! The extra screw hole on the tail of the sight base has me baffled.

It would not have come from the Remington factory that way. It would be considered a parts gun, only because of the Model 8 receiver. We would hunt with it and really enjoy it!

Thanks Jack! This rifle is a keeper for me, just because of the hunting scenes. The engraver must have enjoyed hunting, as much as our family does. It does not get any better, than a day in the woods with a vintage autoloader!
