If you do not already have one what you may need is a 3D printer to craft these plastic parts, have never seen one but demo videos are amazing. Could also make gun parts since machines are being developed to use metal for fabrication of parts.

Pitchy as you well know these pets are us and we are them bonded tightly, Dogs and Horses have too short of life spans or perhaps we hang around too long. All we can do however is provide a good home for all companions and return the loyalty and companionship they share with us.

My ca 1948 Remington Arms Repair Manual says, "Remove magazine stop screw from right side of receiver at front end and unscrew magazine from receiver." Probably will take a long soak in solvent to loosen many years of dried oil.

That groove on each side of comb is called fluting, just an added touch of stock makers art and makes more pleasing lines. Have no idea why some have it and some not, just individual stock finishers preference I guess.

I would not try to drill a hole in barrel jacket and suggest replacing forearm removal screw with same thread sling swivel for use in field and keeping original screw in place during storage. Another option would be to find new barrel jacket to use with sling.

Imfuncity, I recall your Father and his Brother entered US Army in 1940, went through Pacific campaigns including driving japs out of Phillipines, your Father survived and came home but his Brother was killed there. Must have been very hard for your Dad.

Hey, I love this picture regardles of what the rifle might be. This old Ranger is all decked out in his finery, chaps, stirrups, bridle, scabard, holster, lariat, saddle and thongs all look new. One proud old Ranger in my view and rightly so. Gone but not forgotten. RIP old timer.

Great little gun and great caliber, I have used a Marlin 25-20 in Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette shooting in both the pistol and rifle classes. Little light for the rifle Rams but fun anyway.

Rem81auto's view is on target, the high sides curving partly over the top do create sort of a modified rear sight yet leaves enough open as infuncity says to see more target. Digressing a little from the question, a peep sight this far down the barrel is hard to use without crawling up the stock.
