The Remington pre model 11 autoloaders and early Remington Model 11s had cheeks and used nicely figured english walnut, the round knob grip was also used and checkering looks same. The appearance of the wood, checkering and blue all look as if this rifle was put away in a very safe and secure spot when new and used very little. You did good with this, the sight are a plus in my view, modest improvements to make the rifle even better. Jerry

Much thanks Sarge for figureing this one out, will be most helpful in replacing a horn buttplate, was aware raw horn could be softened by boiling and shaping when fitting plug for powder horn but not aware of how to get more heat to make more workable. Thanks again, jerry
