Re: Serial numbers and production dates

The gun was priced like a model 8, grandson of WWII Veteran was known to shop owner in small Idaho farming community, they knew it was of foreign manufacture and war trophy and had been used for many years for big game hunting. It has been drilled for scope mount, worm eaten buttplate, small chip at...

Re: Serial numbers and production dates

Found FN 336 in a pawn shop today, according to an earlier post in this section 2909 rifles were produced between 1910 and 1921 a little under 300 average per year, does anyone have a more detailed breakdown per year. These numbers would indicate first or second year for this old timer. A little his...

Watched Jim's video and found very informative, Thank You for posting. I need to replace the safety on an 8 because of a bent lever and stripped stud, it is the type with screw holding outside lever. How does one remove the old safety, can the pin be driven out from left side, seems very tight, does...

HELP, Model 8 problem

HELP-Have an 8, 24M serial, 1924 vintage that will not cycle, when bolt is pulled back it locks and will not release and go forward. It will cycle if bolt carrier latch (part #29) and spring (part # 21) are removed and left out, however, could not be used or fired. I borrowed some parts from jack 16...

Picture is not clear but looks like rifle may have been buffed and reblued which might indicate missing and offset number and coincidently I saw a number 7 special grade rifle at Boise gun show about 2 years ago. Wonder if those K 2.5 were popular on these or just a poormans Alaskan, have one similar to yours and have seen others. Is your mount offset (Williams mount) to left like mine. Not comfortable to use since have to hold head away from stock. Possibly used for for spotting or longer range aiming while...

According to the limited info I have the date code OX is for July, 1929 and serial 359xxx is also 1929 falling between 357432 and 375075 of the 17644 produced in 1929 all in 12 gauge, production of 20 gauge began in 1930 and 16 gauge in 1931 with introduction of the Sportsman 3 shot models, however,...

Gun appears to be or was a later pre-11 #3 Trap Grade, because of the larger bolt release button or an early 11C Trap Grade because of serial ahead of loading port. I have a pre-11 1908 gun with larger bolt release button, before that they were smaller and a model 11 1924 gun with serial on left sid...

Yes, the 11s are great also, I evolved from using my fathers 11 to 8s, pre 11s have interesting history, FN A5s likely would never happened if Remingtons CEO had not died suddenly while Browning was waiting to discuss his new automatic shotgun. Nice looking Browning A5, appears to be made after 1909 because of that type safety which replaced the previous susicide inside trigger guard, you did excellent job cleaning off the rust and restoring finish. Thanks for passing method and tip on how to, sighthound

Worth or Value? Depends on the individual and condition. Have only seen 2 on internet auction, both went around $2300, guide books quote less, but my opinion of these books is while they do provide some information they are of limited use. Sighthound
