Re: Bonnie and Clyde

Hamer looks like he was a big strong guy. Mean, too. He took 2 bullets in an ambush attempt in Sweetwater, Texas in 1917. One shot in the shoulder and one shot in the leg. And then he still whipped the other guy with one hand and chased him to a nearby car where he then shot him dead as the miscrean...

Re: Metric designation for .35 Remington

So far I've seem the following metric designations for the .35 Remington: 9x48 Browning 9x49 (seems to be most common metric description) 8.86x49 (off a swedish site) 8.9x49 (again swedish) 9.1x49 (leverguns website, story was about a guy who saw a Belgian bolt action rifle in Viet-nam, back in the ...

Re: Modern factory loads?

I think the Remington or Winchester factory loads are AOK. Maybe Hornaday lever action loads, and some of other the hotter loads (Buffalo Bore) intended for the single shot .35 Remington rifles are too hot for the Model 8. Leverlution (sp?) rounds are 200 grain but with a M/V of 2225. Buffalo Bore a...

OK, I am officially very impressed. :o How did ya'll do that? I would not have thought that a shootable short barrel conversion of the Model 8 was possible. Really neat gun...drool, drool.

Welcome Rev. Jeff to the Remington Model 8 and 81 boards. I know everyone on the board would really like to see any pictures you might have of your Model 8... and that deer you took with it last year! You are so fortunate to possess a family heirloom that you can pass along to your descendants. I he...

What's the verdict guys....."C" grade? Or what? With the stock marked "3", I would think it's a righteous "C" grade. What do ya'll think?

Re: Yet another new member

I think you're pretty darn lucky. .30 Remington is my favorite cartridge for the Remington Autoloading rifles. And I wish I owned a nice Model 81 in that caliber. On top of everything..., you have a family heirloom to cherish for the rest of your life and to pass down to other appreciative members o...

Henwood status?

I hope the rumblings I have read on other forums about the demise of John Henwood are inaccurate. Does anyone else have better information about Mr. Henwood?

My favorite is the .30 Remington. 'course, I don't have a .25. If I had a .25, that might be my favorite. My final answer though is .30.

Re: Your First Model 8......

Mine was a 1918 vintage Model 8 in .30 that had a Marble's peep sight on it that I purchased in 1994. Some guy had three for sale at a gunshow I went to that Summer and I thought they were fascinating looking guns. I was getting Gun List by mail back then and so researched the asking prices for 8s a...

I would wonder "IF" it will shoot, and if it does, will the action cycle correctly. This is a spring loaded barrel jacket we're talking about here. What happened to the springs?

Re: Favorite Model 8 caliber ?

What caliber do you wish the Model 8 and 81 had come in? I personally wish that they had made the Model 81 in .250 Savage. Or maybe the wildcat .270 Savage which I understand was invented in the 1940s.

Re: 35Rem's Model 8

Gosh, that's a pretty "tiger stripe" in that wood. I'd pull that stock off and see if there was not a "3" stamped on it somewhere cause it looks to me like you might have gotten a higher grade of wood on that gun. It's happened before. Very nice rifle.
