Re: Need Some Input

Took my latest M81 out for a test shoot today. Using factory Winchester 300 Savage ammo 150 grain Spire Points it shot pretty darn well at 100 yards. But I did have two failures to feed out of twenty rounds. Both were on the second shot from a full mag of four. Seems the round bounced up when it hit...

Re: Hornady Superperformance ammo??

Jim, I agree with the answer of the marketing manager at Hornady being in line for a fat bonus.Of the variety of calibers offered by Hornady in the Leverevolution loading only the 30-30 shows a significant difference that I can see. This is why the 30-30 people with Marlin and Winchester lever guns a...

Re: Air Rifle

Thanks so much for sharing this.I feel embarassed that as a student of history, I was unaware of these facts.Looks like it didn`t get by our 40th President. A shame #44 doesn`t understand it as well.Perhaps he is just unaware like I was and should have this sent to him. This sure will make me look at...

Re: Pre Model 11

I didn`t think about the grooves not being there.Should have been a clue with it being a Pre Model 11.I did one a few years back sans groove and cut one with my trusty Dremel and cut off wheel to lay the Kevlar in. I did the stock on Winchester`s biggest mistake a Widowmaker a few years back and end...

Re: Removing Oil Stains

I appreciate the heatgun idea .I usually use the hot Florida sun and it works pretty good .In addition I make a paste (pancake batter thick) with "Whiting" and denatured alchohol and spread it over the stained area .Let it dry and you will see the oil drawn into the white powder.Repeat until the dis...

Re: Pre Model 11

Good price for that one. Gluing the forends works pretty good but as you may know the weak point is at the receiver end.I have repaired dozens of A5`s and Model 11`s with the splits there. My fix in addition to gluing involves removing the strip of wood that is in the cutout inside if it is still th...

Re: rear tang sight question

Jim, If this is a Lyman #1 tang site it has a locking lever on the left side. After raising the post from the rearward rest position to upright sighting position move the lever forward (you will hear and feel some clicks). This will lock the post in position.Moving it rearward ( more clicks) will allo...

Re: My disaster, almost!

Thanks for the tip using a penny to remove rust.I recently did a Remington 7mm carbine rolling block that was in pretty good shape save some rust on receiver. No pits but had some spots that were really dark as if stained into the metal.I have used copper scouring pads and also brass bore brushes in ...

Re: New TX Model 81 Member

Welcome .I see that you have received some advice re touch up bluing. I tend to disagree with the assessment that "all" cold bluing is pretty much the same. There is one stand out amonst the brands offered and it is Oxpho sold by Brownell`s. I use the creme formula and as with most products it is not...

Re: model 81 scope problem

I see that your post has not been answered in several weeks.I don`t know if I clearly understand the problem.I am familiar with the G+H mount but is the scope you describe as All Weather a Lyman Alaskan or what?If the problem is the adjustment turrents getting in the way of ejecting shells you only ...

30 Remington ammo on Gunsinternational.com

30 Remington Ammo Guns International #100157588 .I saw this listing and it appears at least by the boxes to be recent manufacture. Price was $30 for full box of 20 (had 3) and $25 for partial box of 15. Hope this might help those looking for ammo and some decent brass for reloads.

Hello to all !

New member and glad to be here. Acquired a Model 8 35cal. made 1916 just before Christmas. While doing some research on it I found this site and forum.
