Re: feeling kinda bad right now...

A horrible incident to be sure - my thoughts are with the families - but would this have been avoided with "gun control"? What exactly is "gun control"? Is it intrusive background checks and licencing of gun owners? (your ex from 10 years ago has to say its OK for you to have a gun!) Is it governmen...

Re: Another FN to the Stable

Nice rifle Jack - how many is that now?!
Personally, I wouldn't bother to try to restore the forearm - I think its part of the personality and history of the gun.
Even if you did restore it, it would still be "bubba'd" - that is to say, not original.
I think she's a beauty just the way she is 8-)

Thanks jack, I've always been around - just lurking!
Yes, this would be the same rifle you remember.
I have three FNs, but this is the only plain barreled one.

Re: Whats behind your buttplate?

While back, Remcrazy and I were emailing each other re;some of his items for sale and this subject came up.He told me about his find.I have found several hunting licenses and owners names over the years but best was a folded $100 bill .This was under buttplate of a Browning "Sweetsixteen" I did the...

I haven't found anything behind an 8/81 buttplate, but this was in the hollow of the stock of one of the 1907 Winchesters I have

Hi Cam I should have known that you would already be working on compiling info! I can't find your email address - here is mine drwredneck@hotmail.com Besides Henwood's book, this is all I have on the FN 1900 (can't recall where I got it from - maybe you?), I wish I could read it  http://img.ph...

Re: FN Model 1900

May I ask where you have heard that the 1900 was retailed in Canada? I have not heard of this but it would be very interesting information and something I would like to persue further. There are several places in Henwoods book refering to the cartridge as "9mm" (only, no x48 or x49) I am looking for...

FN Model 1900

Just rec'd this one in the mail - my 3rd so far 8-) It is in fantastic condition with just some light wear to the blue on the mag (obviously where it was carried), with the exception of some marring to the barrel bushing where some donkey tried to remove it with a pair of pliers. Beautiful figure in...

Re: What came with a new Model 8

As far as I know, the holes were just to lighten the stock. Those are pretty cool (and usefull!) finds in your guns. I've never found anything in my Model 8s, but found this in one of my 1907 Winchesters.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/canuck/vintage%20iron/000_0561.jpg http://img.photobu...

81 fit and finish

Hi all I just got this 81 and have a question about the buttstock fit. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/canuck/Model%208/100_5381.jpg Does this look like a replacement or did the factory send out guns fit this way? (I'm used to the fine wood-metal fit of the 8s) http://img.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Your First Model 81......

Just recieved my first 81 in the mail a few days ago!
Paid $500 for it - Sept/49 dated in 300 Savage.
It has plenty of company in the way of two 8s in 35, one in 30, and two FN 1900s in 35 :D

http://www.jwidle.com/browning.html I've got a hardcover book that I picked up at a gunshow years ago called "John M Browning - American Gunmaker" (witten by John Browning Jr. and Curt Gentry, Doubleday 1964).
