OK, here's the dates. The 2 early 8's only 400 numbers apart date to 1908. The later 35 Rem. dates to June, 1929. Dennis

I never really paid much attention to the underside of 8 forends but they can sure be different from one to another. The FE on the left has a raised wood bridge. The right has a stamp of the letter ' N '. I looked at another 8 yesterday that had 3 numbers stamped on underside of FE that did match th...

ironwood8959,
You did fine on your purchase IMHO. The tang sight alone would bring $125.00 or so if you could find the missing part.
I would have walked out the door with it too.

The rifle has deluxe walnut wood, not standard grade with checkering which is often the case on C's. It has a pistol grip which was extra. It has the rare ribbed crescent butt plate. Also, it's in the second rarest caliber of 32 Rem.... I like it !! :D Scroll down to last gun on the link below http:/...

The $306.51 sight sale IMHO was a perfect storm for the seller. I think 2 guys that had to have it got into a pissin contest. I watch some auctions and they seem to end in the $125.00 price point on average.

Wes,
I agree with everyone that you did a nice job on the restock.
I hope you have not tossed the original wood. I can give you some names of people who do amazing work and could bring it back to where it would be very difficult to see the repairs.
