Re: First time buyer

What to look for on a Model 81 made in 1936? First consideration is condition. Overall condition...bluing should be that shinier blue that was used before 1942 rather than the duller blue you see on guns from the end of production. Bolt and bolt handle should not be blued. If you've seen a bunch of ...

Pictures, pictures, pictures. (Un)fortunately, these are worth more than they were 20 years ago when i started my accumulation. I'm sure everyone here is waiting with bated breath to see what you have and what you want to get rid of them for. Trade? or outright sale? Number one consideration, as alw...

I usually keep track of those on Gunbroker, but I completely missed that one. That is easily the nicest one I've ever seen. I think you did well. Scarce gun in near "mint" condition. Beautiful wood. Remington "B" grade wood? Do you dare pull the stock to see if it is marked?

Re: Conflicting date codes on my Model 8

According to Henwood, serial number 50127 was probably "shipped" from the factory 1924. Shipped where? For sale or for final assembly or what? According to Henwood, the receiver was probably manufactured between May and June of 1923. DS indicates "production" or possibly "assembly" in September of 1...

Re: Havent heard of this any where

Over the years I've seen a couple of Model 8s that had been converted to .300 Savage. Most had "3" codes on the barrels after 1936, which indicate a factory repair after the time .300 Savage became available in the Model 81. My assumption.... is that most of these .300 Savage Model 8 rifles were mod...

Most pawnshops won't let you take a gun out for a test spin and probably won't guarantee "shootability" or actual correct functioning. The best way to purchase a good functioning gun is to purchase it from someone who actually shoots the gun. Buying Remington Autoloading rifles from sources you don'...

Re: Question about holes in receiver

My guess is that the holes are for a scope mount, but I don't know which one. Hard to tell value from just one picture. Also value depends on caliber. If it's a .25, grab it. Got to know what the rest of the gun looks like. Though, that being said. It has a nice peep sight. But it looks to me like s...
