Re: Are Model 8s actually marked as such??

Hey Bob, The official change from "Autoloading Rifle" to "Model 8" did occur in 1911, but that doesn't mean the rifles were all immediately marked as such. Some guns you'll see with "Model 8-A" roll stamped on the barrel jacket, others nothing, then eventually the roll stamp "MODEL 8" on the receive...

Welcome Rwc1972! Sounds like you have a very nice inheritance there. It's possible to make your own tools, but if your gunsmith can come up with something quality, well there's nothing wrong with that! I have several sets of tools that I use depending on the condition of the rifle, but unfortunately...

Have you thought about ditching the tang sight altogether and going with a full buckhorn rear sight? It's peepish (I just made that word up) and could be a nice comprise. Just an idea.

wait for the right Model 8!! Actually do whatever you like. Yes the trigger plates are different, and require different screws (to accommodate the greater length between both tangs). Unless you found a late production model 8 trigger plate, you'd be swapping a double side spring mag assembly for a s...

Re: Model 8, feed lip (magazine side spring) woes - help

Hey Craig, all Model 81's were made with double side spring magazines.

Model 8's were initially made with no side springs, then later 1 side spring, then even later 2 side springs!

Hey BZimm, welcome to the forums! Congrats on your first 81! Does the brass bolt go all the way through the body of the magazine limiting the capacity? If so, sounds like a previous owner wanted to limit capacity for hunting law purposes. This could be easily remedied with a new set of side springs ...
