Does anyone have the numbers of these produced vs the straight grip M8s.
As for the M8C is it only the checkered stocks that differentiate these from an M8 semi pistol grip?
Hey chas1949, no production numbers are available!

Re: 250 Savage in a Model 8/81 Remington: could this work?

Great words there Phyrbird ... or as our good friend Jim Woods (RIP) used to say firbird :o  ;) I can't add much to Carl's great response, other than a small company in the 1950's (I think) did conversions of 8/81's to 250-3000 Savage. They were nice, almost factory looking. But not popular, ...

Hey Cptn Jack, sights for the 8/81 are just like any other period firearm. Factory rear sights are elevation adjustable, and dovetailed front sights windage adjustable. Just be careful if you decide to drift the front sight you don't want to break off the sight block from the jacket head!

Most Collectible 8/81 accessory!!!

Okay the title is a bit dramatic, but one 8/81 accessory that has continually brought large sums of money through the years...15 round POE magazines.

Here's an auction from last week. A Special Police 81 magazine bringing over $1600!

Hey Halygon,

The closer picture does help. It may not have been welded, but the tab/post does appear to have been replaced and/or repaired. It's not a big deal at all, especially if the rifle feeds and functions OK

You're right, it's the triangular shaped spring steel on the side of the magazine. They have a tab that inserts into a hole in the magazine right where yours appears welded. The tab broke at some point but it's not a terribly uncommon repair. Just saying replacements are out there if you had the not...

a used but not abused rifle! Looks like they did a good job repairing the magazine side spring tab. You could always replace that one with a brand new one if needed, now that you got the gun apart.

No doubt the 30-30 to 30 change was transitional. Henwood doesn't give a specific date but implies between 1910-1915. Of course there are always exceptions with these guns, but the majority of the guns marked as mentioned would fall before 1915.

Hey Bob, The official change from "Autoloading Rifle" to "Model 8" did occur in 1911, but that doesn't mean the rifles were all immediately marked as such. Some guns you'll see with "Model 8-A" roll stamped on the barrel jacket, others nothing, then eventually the roll stamp "MODEL 8" on the receive...
