Meanwhile, at the Gun Show...

So, I had this Winchester 1894 in .44 Mag that wouldn't hit a barn door from the inside, so off to the little gun show we went. It was the small show, with the big AGCA show next month or so, so I wasn't confident I'd see anything interesting there. Then this happened: http://i19.photobucket.com/alb...

I have discovered that 81 stripper clips, both for .35 and .300, are identical to M14 clips, which are quite literally a dime a dozen.

Important Safety Tip for model 14

I had built some loads for my trusty model 8 in .25. I used the Hornady 117 gr Spitzer bullet, which functioned excellently and grouped pretty well, and so, figured I, these ought to work in the model 14 I just picked up from Gunbroker. Imagine, if you will, my chagrin when not the first one would f...

Re: LOVE STORIES: Your first model 8 (or 81)

I had been intrigued by the thought of these guns for some time. Being something of a gun hipster for many years I have always been drawn to the unusual and obscure. The 8's and 81's seemed just the thing, particularly after learning that they were designed by St. Browning himself. Then I literally ...

At 100 yards the upper three holes are Hornady FTX 160 gr over 30 gr of 3031. The lower three holes are Sierra 150 gr RN over the same charge. She also dinged an 8 inch plate at the same range with monotonous regularity. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b178/bandersnatch45/IMG_20160425_1540047.jpg

Took The Bride out shooting this weekend. Nice and sunny, as you can see. She ate everything up and nothing unscrewed, fell off or shorted out.

The odd thing about The Monster is that it shoots better than my other .30, the one that unscrews itself under recoil. It also feeds both of my handloads: the regular ones with the 150 gr round nose bullets, and the Hornady 150 gr Spitzers. These last my unscrewing gun would have trouble extracting ...

There may be other bullets that work with this short cartridge, but I really like these. Thanks for the feedba...

The hole for the trigger guard screw isn't even close. It's too far up the tang. I wonder if it's for a similar gun, if that's at all possible. It does fit very tight, so I'm going to test fire it this week anyway.

It's .30 Rem. Got a stock and the tang screw coming in next week. Oddly, it doesn't have a barrel jacket plug screw for a sling swivel.

The barrel is in very good shape so I hope she's a shooter.
