semi pistol grip M8s

Does anyone have the numbers of these produced vs the straight grip M8s.
As for the M8C is it only the checkered stocks that differentiate these from an M8 semi pistol grip?

Re: New owner

Pull the forearm off and check for the last 3 digits of the receiver ser number stamped on left side of barrel jacket where break down screw goes through. Your serial number for receiver is for 1912 manufacture. All my M81s are marked this way. If a 30-06 case fits into bolt face it is correct for t...

Re: New owner

Is this rifle a model 8 as stated or a model 81. Model 8 production ceased in 1936 and never included 300 Savage. 300 Savage came about with the model 81. The buffer spring length you mention is consistent with a 300 savage. However it sounds as though the rifle was originally a 30,32 or 25 caliber ...

Barrel nut tool.jpg Barrel nut tool.jpg Yes I felt the same way after I made this and used it so I drilled a second hole in the end of the eye. This was tapped to 10-32 to accept a 10-32 dog point set screw 5/8 in long. Dog point had to be filed down just a bit with a small file to fit in barrel nu...

Re: Ten minute barrel nut tool

Since I am not sure how to edit my post I am going to correct my mistake this way.
I had originally planned on using a piece of a 3/32 drill bit and not 3/16 to repair my old tool.

Re: Split washer in barrel assembly

Just disassembled a M8 in 30 30 Rem that had a split washer in the same place. The spring was short according to the specs listed by Numrick arms. However when length of spring is measured with the split washer it comes very close to correct length. I wonder if since this seems to be not an uncommon...

Re: detachable magazines

Having hunted White tails in northern NY for forty years carrying a 1909 pre M8 in .35 I can tell you there is no real need for a detachable mag. I do have a Krieger in 300 Savage in my collection but have only used it afield a couple of times. Easier to unload and you do avoid that possibility of a...

Re: I found the problem

Quite possible that as long as your rifle was fitted with a 35/300 buffer spring (2.160 OAL) that the recoil spring may be for those calibers also. Also the correct buffer spring for a .30 Rem per Numrick arms is only 1.825 OAL not 1.935 OAL as that is for the .25 Rem. Put all this together and ther...

Re: M8/81 scopes

A true "vintage" and "completing the rifle as it originally was" is a worthy endeavor and I tend to lean that way when dealing with old guns. The "no mag wheels on my 40 Ford" mentality. I`d advise you to modify it just a little for this effort though. Last year production of the 81 keeps it in the...

I am soon to be using the mag from my 300 Sav M81 Krieger as a pattern to modify a extra two side spring mag I have. Comparing to two side by side it appears to be a fairly straight forward job.
I will post pics of progress and results after test firing.

Re: Willliams SM 81 scope mount

Sarge & S & S, Thank you for the information. I really like these old Browning designed 81's. Of all the guns I have held or shot the 81 comes to target the fastest for me.
