Re: Model 8 Buttplate

I have one on a rifle, sorry not for sale. It's the "military" style butt plate and on of the scarcer plates for Remingtons. I've only seen one for sale on Broker or fleabay in the last 3 years. Good luck to you. From looking at mine, fitting it to the wood is more than challenging, a job for the be...

Re: Recoil springs?

I've only had problems with 2 springs: one magazine spring (early M8 riveted), and the one attached to the button that releases the bolt after loading. The mag spring had broke in the bend; and the mag indicator leaf gets loose in the slot then can ride on top of the rail under the bolt. The mag ind...

Re: Help with identification

35Rem is right about the value, if not a little more. I think it's a very clean looking rifle for that age. And having a Remington Grade D repaired in 1950 with a "81" barrel sleeve I know the factory did that kind of work. Got the "81 Full Monte" cardboard box it was returned to the owner after the...

Gun show find: a set of RCBS 32 Rem dies in the original (marked) cardboard box. A vintage set of dies. Original RCBS price list in the box. Metal box lock tabs are still there. I've a set from Redding, expensive :!: :!: Redding and RCBS list their obsolete prices at about $150 retail, a few could b...

My personal opinion would be to just plug the holes w/ plug screws. A reblue has more effect on condition for most of us than a set of scope holes. Just a thought, weld up & blueing will be almost as much as another rifle. After all she does want a sister to join her in the safe.

You might be able to find out; see this post http://thegreatmodel8.remingtonsociety.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4827 Of course you would need a factory case(s) as a baseline to figure out the starting dimension. The grip cap and line spacer is not typical but is very tastefully done. Many don't look even close to that good.

SPBT should work fine if the length does not mess w/ feeding in the mag. There could be issues with the bullet seating depth in the case. the boattail creates a deeper seating. MW, I've not had any luck latching back the bolt this way, haven't tried real hard though.
