Re: First Year Remington Autoloading Rifle, .35, Front Sight and Rear Sight, tapped sight mount holes questions

S7C, Maybe I can help. Got an Xtra front sight base, likely NOS. Is your barrel jacket round or ground flat from the Goobersmith? A factory base is round to fit the barrel jacket. Front sight base.jpg Also got the Lyman 41AT receiver sight in the Fleabay bin. In better than usual shape. (@95%) Sorry...

Curt, A suggestion: the barrel nut washers have 2 tooth patterns to my knowledge. (Members correct if I'm wrong) I have one or two with no serrations, one was in service, now replaced. Re: Failure of bolt to lock open after last round?

CGU, I did the heat treat several times. Worked once, on an old rimfire single shot, made from a piece of hacksaw blade. Curled ends for the pins it fit. Point is unless you get VERY lucky with the metallurgy of the part & the temps involved you get a fancy paper clip most times. I heated to cherry ...

Re: Failure of bolt to lock open after last round?

CGU Is the mag ind spring riding on to of the bolt carrier rail, that's usually what causes weird stuff with the empty lock & cycling new rounds? It's supposed to be in the tiny slot just under the rail. The spring should be fairly straight when not in the action. Look to see if both tabs on the spr...

Re: .25 Rem buffer spring and washers look odd

I'm not certain about the washers, not seen those B4. But the buffer & recoil springs are different on the 25Rem. Your buffer looks right. Some of our guys have found a wood buffer with 2 split washers on each end in a few rifles. Pretty sure they were not factory installed. Part numbers on the old ...

That is unusual. I like. You realize it's a pre-Model 8, referred to a Self Loading Rifle? I'd be real curious if the tang stock screw is in a second tapped hole of the frame tang. Be sure to check for mushrooming of the firing pin or the bolt carrier. They can wear over years of strikes. I always pull the bolt back half way & release the hammer to relieve the springs on my Ladies. That also prevents a dry fire on the firing pin.

I agree, the lady may look fair on the outside. In the barrel jacket it's usually decades of dust & oil varnish if you're lucky.
