I don't believe there is a firing pin spring in the Model 8, I just had a .30 Remington apart and there was no spring.
We've had several of these 8 & 81's and the bolts were all in the white.

Re: Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

FP- Fool Proof Micrometer adjustments, and a very nice sight. I don't think the target knobs appropriate for this sight, and probably not available. I got lucky and won one on eBay, nib that I put on an 81 .300. Our 81 .300 like yours had some holes drilled in the side so I wasn't too squeamish abou...

Re: Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

The Redfield mounts on the tang sight hole but requires a secondary hole to be drilled on the top of the base.
The Williams also mounts on the tang sight hole but requires that two more holes be drilled.

The box for the Williams is marked: FP 81, with the 81 hand written.

I use the 147 grain 7.62/.308 bullet in the .300 Savage. I do not know in this combination will work with the .30 Remington. Okay I just did a comparison and the .300 S is a quite bit shorter then the .30 R or .25 R.

The barrel jackets are the same caliber wise, so I'd assume the forearms are too. The model 81 has a different forearm takedown screw then the model 8, and has larger threads.

I have an older Model 8 25-35 Remington, which is marked on the barrel in the usual place. I just checked and the barrel jacket head does not have the serial number on it. This leads me to think that maybe this Remington has a vintage barrel jacket head with a serial number added.
