AMC's The Son on TV

Have any of you been following the AMC show "the Son" on Sat. nights? The rifles and handguns are interesting and historically correct. In the preview of the next one the actor portraying the older brother is carrying an 8 over his shoulder. Should be interesting.

Re: Model 8 or 81 Police

Cam, I understand the factory catalogs listing the Model 81 Police and we can be pretty sure Remington did not offer the rifles in anything but 30 or 35, but I wonder if anyone sent their own Model 8 in either 25 or 32 for conversion to St. Joe . No way we will ever know unless one shows up. All my ...

Re: Model 8 or 81 Police

I should have added that I have an FBI Model 81 in .30 but of course there are no police ownership markings on that rifle. To my limited knowledge they only ordered .30 caliber rifles.

Cam, thanks for the quick reply. I do not believe I have ever even seen a POE Rifle in .30. I, along with a batch of others, can only hope. Thanks again and all my very best, Joe.

Model 8 or 81 Police

How common are either Model 8's or for that matter 81's POE rifles in .30 Remington ? Also does anyone have knowledge of any in .25 or .32? I have two 8's and two 81's but they all are in .35. Thanks and all my very best, Joe.

Re: Texas DPS owned Model 81's

Cam, That very one is mine and it is also the one pictured in John's book. I have the bill of sale listing when it was sold by the DPS. Without digging it out of my files, I believe there were six sold along with about 800 to 850 Marlin and Winchester 30/30's . Mine came out of the Ed Furler collect...

Re: Bonnie and Clyde display

From what I have read about Ted Hinton ,he was the one using the Browning Automatic Rifle and from the picture ,it appears to be a standard 1918 Model not a Colt Monitor as is displayed in the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco ,Texas. They have Frank Hamer's Monitor in with the Bonnie and Clyde display as...

Cam, I too would have liked to have seen that display, we also must not forget another one of John Browning's designed guns that was used at the take down of those two cold blooded killers, the BAR. Most suredly a fight stopper, tho I believe the first and killing shots were fired by Deputy Prentiss...

Mattitude, a very neat rifle. You are a braver man than me to actually take a D-Grade into the field. Not that it won't do the job, only that I would hate to damage a part. None-the- less you are a "class act" in doing it. All my best, Joe.

Gentlemen, when was the last time you saw a D grade .25 cal. Model 8 for sale? The price was higher than I maybe hoped to pay, but everything I have bought from Collectors has only gone up in value. That is why I ordered it with-in minutes of seeing it. It will join a 35 Caliber D- Grade {not quite ...

Re: research question: firearms used by state/local LE

I applaud your effort , but also think it will be a daunting task. The problem is that most or the guns you are interested in were most likely sold, traded, or destroyed in the late 60's or early 70's and the officers who would remember have been retired for at least 20 years or in some cases 40 yea...

Thanks for the "heads up". I had bid on that rifle 10 years ago and "lost" it to a gentleman from Utah. He and I exchanged emails at the time and then I lost track of him. This time , I won the auction and a rifle that I kicked myself for letting it get away now is headed to me. ...

Guys, I talked to the dealer after this was listed and he was surprised at what he had. He told me it came from the estate of a long time elderly customer and he was unaware of anything more than it had been altered from the original, hence the $299. opening. He also said to me that within ten or fi...

I just got off the phone with the dealer and he said he is getting quite a few calls. He also indicated that he has no paper work or any form of provenance. I must say, that I am not surprised at what the High Grades brought, but I would have thought that the police guns would have brought more based on what they have been selling for from the various dealers when they show up. Also, I am really surprised at how much the loose mags went for. I wonder ho...
