Montrose gun auction

I was at todays Montrose , GA, gun auction and they had a M81 in .300 Savage. Fair condition, looked to have never been cleaned until it was sent to the auction. Scratches, some surface rust, a firearm that was lacking in routine maintainance. It sold for $400 plus buyer and seller premium made the ...

Re: Model 81A .30 with Case

I saw the exact same leather case at a Ohio Gun Collector's Association show about 5 years ago with a beautiful grade 'C' or 'D' .25cal in it. It was priced @$750 and at the time I was only interested in another .300 Savage. Yeah, I know..... Gold filled engraving, curly wood with classic detailed c...

Re: My Mod. 81's.

Yes, they do. I have developed a shoulder condition from shooting these babies and my 7.62's over 45 years. I have Rem M700's that I've owned for way too many years and have probably run at least 25,000 rounds of .300 sav and .308 in the last 15 years. Its gotten to the point that I have to make a c...

Re: my model 8s

Very nice. I saw a boxed Mod 8 grade D at the Ohio Gun Collectors Show last year. It was 98% with a leather covered green felt lined box and he wanted $650 for it. There were two mod 81s at the same show , so I bought one for my son in .25 rem for $225. The market for them is slow here and several s...

Re: Charger clips

I read somewhere that the NATO 7.62 stripper clips will work on the .300 Sav. I have a couple for my M1A Springfield and indeed it does work !! Not as impressive to watch as someone intently loading a fixed mag with .300 Savage ammo though !! LOL :D

Hi guys. I just found your site and mighty glad too. I have two Mod 81's, one early and one last year of production. Both are 98% and .300 Sav. The late one has a factory tang peep, the two blade rear sight and a factory sling while the early one is a 'plain Jane' but completely stock except for the...
