Re: Lines on an aperature rear sight

The markings do not represent a specific measure of range. They are simply a reference. The sight could be used for several different calibers so no one calibration could represent a given range for a certain number of lines. Experiment with your particular caliber to see what adjustments are necess...

The smallest outside diameter and largest inside diameter practical, is the best for any hunting.

Re: Now what

A four digit number with 20% blueing is one to not be messed with. Nothing wrong with a good cleaning, but do not 'refinish' the metal. Small cracks in the wood can be repaired carefully without affecting the wood finish and will make it more valuable as well as more useful. Any rust on the metal ca...

Re: model magazine and stock

I don't know about Bob's but I have a very nice 95% finished stock for a model 8. I'll let it go for $75. PM if interested.

Re: Handloading for .35 Rem model 81?

There should be several good loads listed for 4895, somewhere around 35gr. will probably work. 4350 is too slow. I'm not that familiar with R15 or Varget.

Re: Loading for .30 and .32 Remington

All you have to do to form 32 Rem is resize 30 Rem. actually no different than a normal resize to reload. Ammo for both the 30 and 32 are still available at gun shows and online. Not cheap but available. The 35 definitely has more pop. But many ,many deer, Elk and Hogs have fallen to both the 30 and...

Re: Model 8 serial numbers.

Generally serial number problems such as you describe can be traced to various numbers being skipped (who knows why), or numbers not used because a rifle was scrapped, or one being used for parts to fix another existing rifle.

Re: Gun Broker and similar sites

I've bought and sold a number of items with no problem. Although I have wondered about some guys artificially running up the prices by having a buddy bid. I don't think you can close out an auction after it gets a bid. I personally hate it when a guy uses a "reserve" price. If he has a min...

Re: Rem. 8 Carbine

You have the buffer spring, recoil spring, and recoil spring case all inside the jacket. There was room for all that? or did he move the jacket reinforcing ring inside the barrel jacket.

Re: Who hunts with a 8?

I hunt with my M8 35 cal and 32 cal. My son hunts with his 35 cal M81. It was my intention to bring the 35 to Namibia this past August but circumstances prevented it. Namibia is the only country in Africa that allows semi-autos to be imported for hunting. The next time I go i'll be taking it though....

Re: Ikeda's son's hunting pics

The deer was killed by my son on our property in east Texas, Shelby county, several years ago with my 32 cal gun. The second picture was last year with my sons Model 81 in 35 cal. The last picture is of a nice hog I shot from the same blind that my son shot the deer from. I used my 1936 mfg. Model 8...

Africa Hunting

For those of you who were active in the old form you may remember I am a big fan of hunting in Namibia, and I am associated with a gentleman who is a PH and runs his own hunting operation in the north of Namibia. I would like to repeat my offer to those who are members of the forum or your friends. ...
