Re: Front sight blade OA height

All of my model 8/81 rifles have rear tang sights installed. On most of them the front sights are Marbles brass bead type. These have worked for me very well. I would suggest that you start looking at this type of sight for your rifle. They are fairly thick and the brass bead shows up well on most b...

Re: New Member- New to me Model 8. Please tell me what I bought here

Looks like you have a pretty nice M8 on your hands. I think some ammo and a trip to the range should be on your list of things to do. I also advise checking out some of the take down vids here on the site to help you with getting up to speed on cleaning and maintenance tasks. Complete disassembly mo...

Re: Everyone out to pasture?

I use a Lee 180 RN bullet mold. Gas checked, the bullet comes in at 173 grs. Go figure. Over 27 gr. of 3031 in a 300 Savage case, it is accurate and reliably cycles the action of an 81. I have not had any problems with this load, so if you blow up your rifle, well, it is not my fault. This is not a ...

Re: Everyone out to pasture?

I really like the 300 Savage caliber. Reload everything I shoot (250 Savage also), yet to buy a box of factory fodder for either. If I bought factory for everything I shoot, I wouldn't have the guns I have. Way to pricey and I love to shoot rather than buying a box of 20 or two once a year. Many sa...

I have an M8 in 35 made in the 30s and experienced the same issue with reloads. Being a very long time Guzzi rider I tend to take the fix it with out taking it apart if you can due to the "not being able to get another one" and "they don't make those any more" often encountered. So, when I obtained a tang sight for my early production M8 and fit it up I had ...

Its been my experience that the original mounting screws were all the same. They are very hard to find and are an odd pitch. Welcome and that's a nice old rifle. My kind of old Remington! I think its a safe bet those cast loads are not a good match for your rifle. Cleaning Survey

As most of us can attest in the past most of these rifles were not cleaned too thoroughly too often. :) I think this maybe was due to the perceived complexity of the guns or possibly that they came into being during the smokeless era when cleaning was not nearly as important as it had been. Good results for sure! Should do as good at 100 as you can shoot it. I use pretty much the same load in my 35 Model 14 but with my eyes and the factory sights I call it good to do 3-4". Got to agree that the pumps are easier on the shoulder. And they don't eject the empties so that they hit me ...
