the "pin" is really part of the side spring. My suggestion is to buy a replacement side spring, just make sure you get the correct side!

Re: Model 8, feed lip (magazine side spring) woes - help

Hey Craig, all Model 81's were made with double side spring magazines.

Model 8's were initially made with no side springs, then later 1 side spring, then even later 2 side springs!

Re: Hello from UP of Michigan

Hey BZimm, welcome to the forums! Congrats on your first 81! Does the brass bolt go all the way through the body of the magazine limiting the capacity? If so, sounds like a previous owner wanted to limit capacity for hunting law purposes. This could be easily remedied with a new set of side springs ...

Re: what have I got?

I don't know buttplate measurements, just know which ones were factory and which aren't. There never was a plastic plate used on 8's, but turn of the century gutta percha, basically like Bakelite. They're brittle nowadays and can fracture if shot in a hard rest or dropped. 81's only ever had 1 buttp...

StrkAliteN,

You're welcome to list rifles at whatever price you like. We just ask that you and the buyer abide by any state/federal firearms laws.

If you made a thread for each rifle that may be helpful to others!

I got emailed about this gun a few weeks ago. Never seen another 8/81 quite like it. It's a unique take on the operating handle, modified to be a folding type. The safety lever has been removed and a new custom lever relocated to above the trigger. I think it looks pretty cool actually. Safe operati...

Hey StrkAliteN,

Per Carl, I'd recommend posting anything that has to do with selling a rifle(s) in the "FOR SALE OR TRADE" section.

Great observations guys. I also believe the overall popularity of these rifles is increasing and are becoming more and more collectible. I'm sure it could be a C grade, they'd have to remove the wood to know for sure. Maybe it's the camera lighting but the wood doesn't look too spectacular, although I've seen checkered A grades with prettier grained wood than C grades (check out our Grades of the 8/81 page). Would be even sweeter if ...

I can definitely load an 8/81 with a stripper clip much faster than single loading.

The clips are a very cool feature of an autoloading sporting rifle and one of the things that gives the 8/81 a cool nostalgic feel.

I believe POE built & sold many many more complete Police 8's than they ever did conversion work on someone's rifle. I'm sure they did some of this work in the early days, but I think it was marginal compared to the complete guns they sold. Factory POE records we have reflect this as new POE 8 sales...
