Most Collectible 8/81 accessory!!!

Okay the title is a bit dramatic, but one 8/81 accessory that has continually brought large sums of money through the years...15 round POE magazines.

Here's an auction from last week. A Special Police 81 magazine bringing over $1600!

Welcome! I had to google Couer d'Alene, never heard of it. The pictures were as you say, a ghastly place, why would anyone want to go there. Between you and me, do you know a good place to stay IF someone decided to drive through? haha

Re: Restoring Great Grandfather’s Model 8

Hey Halygon,

The closer picture does help. It may not have been welded, but the tab/post does appear to have been replaced and/or repaired. It's not a big deal at all, especially if the rifle feeds and functions OK

she's a beaut. Early rifles in condition like this are quickly becoming among the most rare of all Model 8's.

Re: Restoring Great Grandfather’s Model 8

You're right, it's the triangular shaped spring steel on the side of the magazine. They have a tab that inserts into a hole in the magazine right where yours appears welded. The tab broke at some point but it's not a terribly uncommon repair. Just saying replacements are out there if you had the not...

a used but not abused rifle! Looks like they did a good job repairing the magazine side spring tab. You could always replace that one with a brand new one if needed, now that you got the gun apart.

Dayton, Ohio PD - 1931

This photo is a real treasure. I may have posted it years past but here it is again. Thought to be from late 1931. A few members of the Dayton PD with quite an arsenal! Two Thompson SMG's, a Remington Model 11 shotgun, all flanked by two Model 8's. Apparently the Cadillac was customized with the int...

No doubt the 30-30 to 30 change was transitional. Henwood doesn't give a specific date but implies between 1910-1915. Of course there are always exceptions with these guns, but the majority of the guns marked as mentioned would fall before 1915.

Re: Are Model 8s actually marked as such??

Hey Bob, The official change from "Autoloading Rifle" to "Model 8" did occur in 1911, but that doesn't mean the rifles were all immediately marked as such. Some guns you'll see with "Model 8-A" roll stamped on the barrel jacket, others nothing, then eventually the roll stamp "MODEL 8" on the receive...

Welcome Rwc1972! Sounds like you have a very nice inheritance there. It's possible to make your own tools, but if your gunsmith can come up with something quality, well there's nothing wrong with that! I have several sets of tools that I use depending on the condition of the rifle, but unfortunately...

wait for the right Model 8!! Actually do whatever you like. Yes the trigger plates are different, and require different screws (to accommodate the greater length between both tangs).
