Keen observation Roger. I've never seen an FN with that pattern of checkering, especially on the wrist. The wood is of a bit higher quality than most FN's too.

Re: 81 police special fixed mag
Here is Hall5252's rifle. This is an authentic Model 81 "Special Police". The mystery is the magazine. It appears to be a very early Model 8 type (neither side has a side spring or provision for one). It would seem, this rifle may have originally been equipped with a detachable magazine an...

I just bought a model 81 police special but what's odd is it's a fixed mag not the 15 or 5 round clip it also does not have the police dept engraved I originally bought this gun not knowing it was a police special and was planning on using it to hunt with but if this is something significant I woul...

This serial number, 3064, is new to our worldwide FN 1900 database! This makes a worldwide total of 156 (so far) of these rifles recorded today.
Always cool to see one pop up.

John, your rifle is up there amongst the finest of all the 16 known "D" grades. What an absolute piece of Remington artwork you've got. It's a stunning rifle and an ode to the Remington craftsmanship of years past. In my opinion(whatever that's worth!), the 81D's, and yours particularly, a...

The early 8's are my favorite. A lot of guys shoot modern Hornady LeverEvolution ammo. I've always personally shot Remington or Federal soft point ammo in mine. I think at this point, most people shoot what they can get their hands on.

Model 8 - Factory Checkered "A" Grade
This rifle, although with a tapped receiver, has a lot going for it. Was certainly a wealthy man's rifle once upon a time. The combination of expensive sights, the factory checkering, the sling eyelets. As cool as an A grade gets!

FN 1900 **STRAIGHT GRIP - straight out of France!
As some of you know the the FN 1900 "straight grip" is nearly a unicorn. FN manuals depict a straight grip version in both the parts breakdown and the rifle function illustration, but up until now there was only 1 recorded example; a late production gun originally owned by John Browning's ...

Sharing the FN 1900 Database
Fellas, I'd love some feedback on this idea... I've kept a database of FN 1900 rifles for over 10 years. This includes (in most cases) photos of the rifle, serial number, and county of location. I'd love any suggestions on how to make that available to view here. I'm wondering if revisiting the Gall...

You did such a great job cleaning up that gun! I don't think it's just better lighting either, you can see the engraving much better and the wood looks great.
I love that you have historical provenance with the rifle which is a rare treat to go with a rare gun!

I love seeing Police guns of any flavor! In the database, we've got 3 of the KY HIGHWAY PATROL guns on record. This is one of the 3. I don't know why, but they're all in what I'd call "fence post" condition, i.e. very rough. Still a cool and authentic rare "Special Police". This ...

This is a rare opportunity. I did a little research on this. The magazine is stamped "013 2". The "013" are the last 3 digits of the rifle's serial number, and "2" is the 2nd magazine that came with the gun (POE rifles came with 1-3 magazines depending on the dept.). Ch...
