Re: THREE DIFFERENT FOREARMS ON THE MODEL 81
Well with the newest 81 being nearly 60 years old, you do often see some custom/modified stock sets and those heavily sanded. You are correct though in that there are only 2 forearms for the 81, the semi-beavertail and the flat side (if you exclude the Special Police 81 forearm, and the early "...

ROBO, The serial numbers listed are just the numbers as advertised by Remington to their production according to John Henwood's research. Of course we know through Henwood they manufactured more than the numbers listed. In fact # 69540 sold a couple months ago on gunbroker... http://gunbroker.com/Au...

Great questions Kody, we'll have to put together a post/page on the FBI issue 81. Nekhunter, Congrats on the find. From your description it sounds as if the rifle was not engraved by Remington. The only reason I say this is because Remington, as far as I know, never offered factory installed aftermarket scope mounts much less engraved them along with rings and locking levers. The...

Jack, the U shape ears seem to be a pretty poor design for removing the barrel jacket bushing. The originals, from what I have been told, almost always had broken ears from over-torquing. There are only a few that do not have broken ears. In fact, the sample wrench I was lent, which was in spectacul...

colorcasemike,
It depends on when your Model 8 was manufactured. If memory serves me correctly earlier Model 8's had neither a firing pin spring nor firing pin buffer spring.

Randy, not too many gunsmiths today have heaps of experience with Remington 8 & 81's. I'd recommend checking with local gunsmiths in your area to see if any do. A good wood guy could probably get your pistol grip back to the original profile, remove the recoil pad and install a modern reproducti...

Rev., if you are referring to the loop in the middle of the forearm that is not a sling swivel but the forearm scew head. Using it as such can break it as it was not designed for that purpose; only to remove the forearm. Sling swivels for these rifles almost always, even from the factory, included u...

15 round magazines are very scarce and typically alone cost more than a rifle (if and when you can find them). Beyond the monetary hurdle, modifications must be made to a number of internal parts, changes which most gunsmiths will not know unless they have a police 8 or 81 on hand for reference. You...
