Turned out the barrel did not match the receiver so I did not buy it.

Insomnia got me up at 0130 so I dug out the 1922 Model 8 and 1949 Model 81, broke them down, gave them a good scrubbing and a coat of wax. Love these old guns. Just got back from picking it up at the FFL. The screw is present and there are no scratches or discoloration to indicate it ever had a peep sight on it.

The front sight is stamped Lyman and is press fitted into the dove tail - no screw on it.

I am new to Model 8's. Recently bought a 1922 model in .35 Rem. It has a buckhorn sight and no tang mounted peep sight.

I believe the gun is all original but I am not sure.

What year did Remington begin putting the tang peep sights on the Model 8's?
