Re: Split case necks on Grafs .32 Rem hand loads

Well, I finally got back to Grafs regarding the split necks in 20 of the 50 cases I reloaded. These were unfired cases. Reloading supplies like primers and powder have only recenctly, like in the last month, begin to show up and so there was a almost 1 1/2 year wait between getting the cases and bei...

Re: Assault Weapons Legislation passes, on to Gov

it is and has always been about incremental steps to take your second ammendment rights away. Don't pay attention to what the "current" legislation says or proposes. It is just a step to controlling guns and whatever else they want you compliant ones to obey so they have power over you. On...

Re: DIY Tools for Model 8 Disassembly

Depending on your level of "craftmanship" I made a basic set of tools for disassembly of my .25 Model 8. Check out my posts for details but basicly requires a socket that fits the OD of the barrel, rachet wrench, hacksaw, a piece of 1/8 X 1 X 2 inch flatbar, and some Dremel grinding. Worke...

Re: Split case necks on Grafs .32 Rem hand loads

Good to know. I upgraded my propane torch system in combination with a temperature stick to keep temp in bounds (600-700F). I tried some brass annealing using this method but can't reload untill I can aquire some primers, which are really hard to come by around my neighborhood.

Re: Split case necks on Grafs .32 Rem hand loads

Thanks to all for advice.
BTW, I sent email to Grafs three weeks past informing them of the problem I'm having and heard crickets.
Disappointed to say the least, but what other sources are there out there for .25 cal brass?

Re: Split case necks on Grafs .32 Rem hand loads

So, I purchased 100 brass in .25 cal from Grafs and reloaded 50 of them. With this thread going on I inspected the reloaded cartridges and found 23 of the 50 have split necks. The 23 are junk and am leary of the rest of these (27) and have a question for all you. Can I safely pull the bullets, empty...

Re: Greetings from Oregon

Welcome, Slighly off subject but I have enjoyed Oregon fishing adventures at the Deschutes River and at the Grindstone Lakes in Central Oregon. Vacationed a lot in Central Oregon. Spokane is home and the politics for the most part divide at the Cascade mountains so we enjoy that insulation factor. S...

Re: Let's Get Technical!

I haven't purposely gone out "yet" to punch holes in paper and can't testify to the accuracy of my model 8 in .25, but, when I took it out for a couple of hunting trips I was amazed at the off hand accuracy with factory buckhorn sights. This was many years ago but on two separate occasions...

Re: .32 Rem brass at Grafs HEADS UP!

I've had problems with Graf's .32 and .30 Rem brass splitting necks on first and second loads. At a dollar a case, I now anneal all Grafs brass before loading the first time and will re-anneal after every other loading. I've seen the reference of annealing the brass. Does anyone have the procedure ...

Welcome to the forums. I have been a member for a few months and this is what I have learned here. 1. There is a huge amount of information here which is shared freely and it usually starts with determining the caliber, manufacture date, and condition. 2. You will find many different stories of how ...

If you haven't already found die set, I bought Hornady set in August 2020. Very satisfied and they fit my RCBS press just fine. Priced at < $60.

A picture of my 25. I think this is a factory original. There is no set screw in the collar area.

Re: Are there any free photosharing sites recommended?

After various attempts to find a free photo sharing site I sent Cam an email about finding a web site.
He said he didn't use a web host for pictures.😳
Digging into this I realized that resizing photos to 250 x.185 (4:3 aspect ratio I think) photos could be successfully attached.
Thanks Cam.

I also made some tools to remove the barrel nut and the outer barrel cover. I saw examples of the tools done by "circle branch pro". I found a tool socket, in my case an 11/16 socket fit perfectly over the barrel. I then drilled a 3/32 dia hole in the socket a measured distance back from t...

Re: .25 Rem buffer spring and washers look odd

I just bought my first .25 Rem Model 8 (1923) and am disassembling and inspecting. When I removed the barrel shroud components, the buffer spring looks very different from my other Mod 8/81 guns, and there were two washers on the receiver end of the buffer spring. None of my other .30, .32, .35, .3...

Re: Need .25 Rem reloading advice

I've just recently got into reloading for my 25 Rem. I used the Hornady book data for 25-35 and confirm what you are seeing for 3031. In my case I went with H335, WLR primer, and Hornady SP. #2552 bullets. H335 is rated about equal to H4895 as far as burn rate. Reloading supplies are in short supply...

Re: Loose Barrel Jacket Fix

I definitely agree on the cold/heat method. Dry ice from a CO2 extinguisher I have used many times in industry. For heating try a "heat" gun from Harbor Freight, they never last forever, even the expensive ones. The H/G is just like a blow dryer only hotter. Plus they are safer for us tha...

Not sure whether you are talking about inserting into chamber or into magazine but here's some info fwiw. I saw an article addressing the difficulty loading the magazines of model 8's, Here's the suggested technique that I found to work. Instead of pushing cartridges down into the mag parallel to ba...

Thanks, I have learned a lot about this rifle from this site, including the relative rarity of the 25's. Price has never been an issue for me because the promise made to my gma was to take care of it, pass it down to my kin, and never sell it. I'm in my mid 70's and have had the discussion with my c...

Hello from Eastern Washington. I inherited a Model 8. S# 19780 in a .25 Remington from my grandmother. I became it's caretaker in1960. Her brother passed and she inherited the rifle from him. I took deer with this rifle in '62 & '63. I ran out of factory ammo shortly thereafter and put it away u...
