Re: Need Model 8 Firing Pin for 35REM

I’m taking it to a gunsmith today found a firing pin but it will need to be modified. I can do that myself but I also want the receiver polished on the inside, and the buttstock needs to be glass bedded to fit better.

Re: Need Model 8 Firing Pin for 35REM

My firing pin does not have the tapered section on the shaft. It’s skinny the whole length. Basically what yours looks like after the taper.

Re: Need Model 8 Firing Pin for 35REM

Mine does not have the spring so I assume that’s the older version. There is a pin at the back of the bolt carrier that I cannot get out. I also have no idea where to find a new firing pin.

Photos from my phone won’t attach

I took the entire bolt apart tonight only to find that the tip of my firing pin was broke off inside the bolt head. It had to have been like that for years as the pin and the tip are completely rounded off and smooth. 2 Questions Does anyone know where I can find a new bolt, and is it the same firin...

HELP Side Scope Mounting Plate Broke Off

While shooting my model 8 today the weaver #4 mounting plate and scope stripped out and launched in the air. Somehow I managed to catch it mid air after the recoil and shot. The holes in the receiver are now stripped and so are the 6 screws. That’s where I am.....so now what? Trip to the gunsmith, r...

Re: To disassemble or not?

No problem glad I was able to help. There is a disassembly video that’s 45min long on YouTube. It helps to watch that a couple of times. It’s really not that bad once you get in there. Just be careful cleaning and stay away from all the springs/mechanisms in the receiver. Get a wad of QTips and you ...

Re: To disassemble or not?

Ok update....I took it all the way down to trigger group/housing off and bolt out. Everything is reachable from that point. There was so much residue and crud behind the bolt I have no idea how it even cycled. After seeing what I saw tonight I retract my previous statement. It needs to come apart at...

Re: To disassemble or not?

I just inherited a model 8 from my grandfather and I took both stocks off and the barrel, was able to clean 90% of the rifle from there without full disassembly. Cycles and functions very well with no issues. I would go that route until you feel more comfortable diving deeper.

What do I have 1932 Model 8 sn 59xxx

I recently received 2 rifles from my grandfather one was a 1907 Winchester 351 and the other was a Rem Model 8. The model 8 was passed to my grandfather from his father. It has the Krieger conversion and a weaver side scope with paperwork. I’m confused when in comes to the stock which was never alte...
