Re: reloading remington 30 cal.

30.0 gr of IMR 4985 behind a 150 gr soft point works like a champ. Low recoil no signs of pressure.

Local club “fall festival” day

I took my Early Type FBI Model 81 out to our club’s annual “fall festival” this past weekend and used it in the running deer event. Apart from being sublimely out of place among the competition, it was also a good reminder of why I don’t shoot at running deer in the field! As a fun bookend to the da...

Re: FBI Model 81 w/ issues

Two days of Kroil and a hairdryer was the ticket. Thanks all.

Re: To disassemble or not?

Thanks Ken. I’ll do that research, then I just need to be patient and go slow. I have a more basic question open in another thread but it works better here; is there an alternative method to loosening the takedown screw that holds the two halves of the rifle together? I can’t get it loose with the a...

FBI Model 81 w/ issues

Can I jump in this thread? I have a 1942 mfgr FBI rifle that has some curious features that are along the lines of what you all are observing, and I was wondering if you could shed some light on what I am seeing. See the attached photos: there is an APP3 code on the left side which would indicate a ...

Re: To disassemble or not?

Thanks all. Any similar thoughts on the barrel and barrel jacket assembly? Apart from the bore itself, that seems to be the tougher nut to crack. The inside of the bbl jacket has to see some residual muzzle blast with every shot- maybe some of the later 81’s only saw non-corrosive ammunition but tha...

Re: To disassemble or not?

That’s good feedback, thanks. Kinda wish I had a beater to practice on but I’ll go slow with the limited approach you recommend. Thanks again.

To disassemble or not?

Being new to this forum and the Model 8, I wanted to get folks’ opinions on the wisdom of disassembling their Model 8’s for a thorough cleaning and lubrication. I’ve owned a number of older firearms and a thorough disassembly, cleaning and lube was always part of the fun of having them. But my 1940’...

Greetings from Virginia

I’m pretty new to Model 8’s and brand new to any online forum, but I wanted to introduce myself. A few years ago I bought my first Model 81, and because of this forum, now I’ve got two of them! Both are Early Type FBI rifles but they were not marked as such when I bought them- I figured that out fro...
