Re: Hamer special

There were several errors in the placards related to Bonnie and Clyde history when I went to the Waco "Texas Rangers Museum" in 2016. For example, there was a Winchester Model 1910 .401 rifle (Cat. No. 2030) that said "This Winchester .401 caliber shotgun [sic] was taken from Ray Hami...

Hmmm.... the extra screw is on the butt end of the tang. On straight stocks the stock screw is near the end of the trigger housing tang. On curved Model 8 tangs for round or half-knob stocks, the stock screw is farther up. Yours has screws in both of those positions. Have you had the stock off to se...

Well.... after reading all the other posts on wood buffers in .25-35 Rem guns, I have decided that it was definitely a factory installation. Why? We may and probably will never know. Re: Barrel sticking to the rear after firing (SOLVED !)

Yesterday, I tried my new wood buffer that I made from a 7/8" wood dowel rod. I had also polished the chamber with a large bronze bore brush with a little Flitz paste on a patch using a drill motor. Fired 10 rounds with no problems. Gun functioned perfectly.

I've made a new wood buffer from a 7/8" wooden dowel rod and drilled it out with a 9/16" spade bit. I also polished the chamber and will try to fire the gun again before trying the spring. If it functions with the new wood buffer, I might just leave it be.

I'm glad you got it apart. These .25 Rem and .25-35 Rem guns are proving to be a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. However, I think that we have enough evidence to prove that the guns did at one time come with a wood buffer instead of a spring, even if Henwood and other authorities can...

Do you have a Rem 8/81 specific tool that you are using to get the barrel bushing nut out of the shroud? Instead of WD-40 or regular lubricating oils, try some Liquid Wrench, Kroil, or other penetrating oil.

What is your rifle's serial number? From the pic it looks like 7322, which would be 1907. Why do you say yours was made in 1928?

Your rifle's stock also has the raised cheeks which only on the early guns before 1919.

The 8 and 81 rifles did not come with sling mounts. Starting in 1920, the barrel shroud had a threaded hole and screw where one can be mounted. According to Henwood's book "The Great Remington 8 and Model 81 Autoloading Rifles", your rifle was made in 1907 (If I'm correct reading your serial number as 7322) and is a Model 8. The EUU3 code is odd in that it has an extra U. EU3 would mean a factory repair in Oct 1927. I'm not sure w...
