Re: Unseated fired primers on reloaded .35 Rem ammo?

A little late to this party, but I figure I may as well add what I have, info wise. I recently fired my Model 8 (.35 Rem) for the first time. I put 25 rounds of factory loaded, new Remington ammo through it. I noticed this same issue. About 25% of my cases have raised primers to one degree or the ot...

Re: Firing pin spring

Wow, I saw the spring in the pic you posted up under Welcome Wagon and I was thinking it looked a little mangled. I'm not sure what the "buffer" spring is supposed to do. Cushion the bolt as it slams back and bottoms out in the carrier? That would sure explain how it got mooshed eventually...

Re: New member

Hey there. I'm a new member myself. My dad had given me his Model 8 (ca. 1930) and it had a broken firing pin as well. Good pics you posted. Yeah you definitely have a FP spring there. BTW, is your barrel actually marked 30-30 REM? I'm a very long way from being an expert here. Learned most of what ...

Re: Adjusting the fore-aft angle on the Lyman #1A sight?

Reporting back: Well that worked like a charm. Didn't need to mess with the snake-eyes side either. I just put my 1/4" open-end on the lock nut and backed it off about 1/8 of a turn. This is while holding the stem immobile with my other hand of course. At that point the stem was free to pivot f...

Re: Adjusting the fore-aft angle on the Lyman #1A sight?

I have the answer finally. Found in here where a guy shows how to tear down and reassemble a Lyman 1A. I may as well share it here on this sight: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/2406770/lyman-tang-sight-repairs#Post2406770 For me, the critical piece of information is ...

Re: Adjusting the fore-aft angle on the Lyman #1A sight?

Thanks again. I assume that the holes there are just some special "snake eyes" screw head they used for a while, for assembly and setting movement resistance. I've seen what I believe are the same #1A sights, possibly from different years, that have just a slot head there but are otherwise...

Re: Adjusting the fore-aft angle on the Lyman #1A sight?

Thanks. So far I'm not even successful at loosening the screw that holds it on, so I won't be removing it anyway. I wish I could find an online copy of an original owner's manual or similar that explains how to install and adjust a #1A sight. Haven't found one yet. I'm curious about the detent and i...

Adjusting the fore-aft angle on the Lyman #1A sight?

I believe mine's a #1A anyway. Does anyone know how to adjust the angle on the tang sight? Mine's set to lock in place at a slight rearward tilt. I would prefer it be set to lock with more vertical (i.e. at 90° to the barrel axis). FYI, My Model 8's tang sight pivot screw has the head on it with two...

Re: Sling options?

Hey another Guzzi rider! I have a Griso 1100.

Yeah that sling's pretty much what I was wondering about. I will look around. Thanks for the advice on sources.

Sling options?

Anyone know of a good sling option for the Model 8? Something that just straps on? I have no interest in modifying my rifle. So I guess I'm thinking of something you'd just strap onto the rifle. I believe I've seen them on shotguns.

Hello from San Diego

Greetings all. Wanted to say hi. A couple of years ago my dad gave me his two deer rifles, which were originally purchased by his dad in or around San Antonio TX circa 1930. A nice Model 8 in .35 Remington and an also nice Winchester Model 54 in .30-'06. My father subsequently inherited these rifles...

New member -- have some questions

Hi all. I'm the proud owner if the Model 8 originally purchased by my grand father in or around San Antonio, TX in the early 1930s. I've learned a lot about this kind of rifle over the years, but now that I'm tearing into it I find I have a lot more questions than before. I've been chatting with Cam...
