Re: Action remaining locked during unloading

I encountered much the same problem..hand ejecting un fired rounds. when i finally scrubbed the hell out of the chamber and lightly polished it, the rifle cycled like a dream. 81 yrs of crud in there. It cant hurt to try it. eliminate one area at a time.

Im afraid that all the older experienced model 8/81 members with the good knowledge will disappear.

Re: OEM Magazine fit

Just found your post.. comparing my model 8 single spring to model 81 double spring I would say they will not interchange..81 has a cut in the trigger group plate in both sides similar to the one on the left side of the model 8 to accommodate the thickness of the spring. the barrel lock mechanism in...

Re: model 81 problem retracting the bolt handle

Jacks post got me thinking. although I had disassembled and carefully cleaned and re assembled the bolt and receiver parts, installed a firing pin and spring , this new to me .35 Rem non working rifle.. I realized I had forgot about the chamber!!! OMG..81 yrs of crud. After a good soak then brushing...

Re: model 81 problem retracting the bolt handle

thank you for the reply.... I own two model 8's and have stripped them both %100 keeping them clean and running flawlessly. This one came to me (81) in .35 rem with a broken firing pin and mangled firing pin spring. the barrel was partially un screwed because the barrel lock was positioned so high i...

Re: model 81 problem retracting the bolt handle

I am also wondering if the problem could be in the bolt lock being worn and not releasing? hopefully an experienced model 8/81 guy will chime in here .

model 81 problem retracting the bolt handle

I hope that being a site devoted to 8/81 rifles someone has encountered this problem. When retracting the bolt handle the first 1/2" takes a great deal of pressure. once the lugs rotate the rifle works satisfactory. loads, shoots and extracts, locks on the last round. Also when installing the b...

Re: firing pin compatibility.

Guess i can answer my own question..Firing pin came today. It does fit. firing pin return spring had to be shortened to the proper length, as the firing pin thickens part way up.

firing pin compatibility.

I was under the impression the only difference between model 8 and 81 were the wood. However I have a 1939 model 81 apart. I found that the firing pin is broken and there is a mangled firing pin spring. Are the bolt dimensions the same? and will firing pins interchange? Thank you the one that's brok...
