Hot damn! The scroll work engraving and those game scenes on that rifle are jaw dropping quality.

Welcome to the forum! You have an early gun with an uncommon caliber designation stamped on it. 1907 there was hand engraved caliber designation on the earliest of guns. Yes, that is the correct method to put a scope into a Stith mount.

I can't comment on when rifle scopes started using nitrogen. I can say that I have no problems with my replacement scope that I put in my Stith mount " Weaver K-2.5".

I wish i had a way to measure the pitch on the screws, any thread pitch gauge i have access to doesn't go that small.

Pure guess from looking at other posts on the forum. 5-48 range ???

Best would be a good genuine gunsmith or well outfitted gun shop to help.
