Re: Remington 14: brass "cartridge head" on the receiver -->
Thanks for the replies guys! That's good information. I'd heard the pressure relief idea before and wondered if all the guns I've seen with no "primer" had failed case issues at some time or other "used hard" issues -didn't seem likely to me because it seems that half the 14s and...

Re: How many reloaders do we have?
That's an awfully impressive setup olskool! Been reloading about 25 years -started so I could afford to shoot the oddball calibers I somehow gravitate towards. Started with .44 mag (not oddball, I know) and .45-70 (before they became popular again) .30 Remington, 7x57, .356 Winchester, 6.5x55, .22 H...

Remington 14: brass "cartridge head" on the receiver --> ???
I always thought the brass cartridge-looking thing on the left side of the receiver on my model 14 was more or less a badge or decoration. When I started looking at auction sites and GA I noticed that the "primer" is missing on many of them. I was hoping that someone could enlighten me on ...

Re: Model 14/141 (and 8/81) Question
Thanks! I have the older version of both the 8 and the 14, and know of a 141 in very nice condition for sale locally. Just wondered if there was much difference besides the obvious cosmetic ones.

Re: Rem M51
I've been interested in one of those for quite a while. They don't come up very often -it's even trickier to find one that's already behind the iron curtain .

Model 14/141 (and 8/81) Question
I've been pondering a question lately regarding the 14/141 (and 8/81) rifles. When Remington switched to the newer model designation in the 30s, I recognize the cosmetic differences, and understand that there were internal differences as well. I have read recently that the changes were made not as i...

Re: New guy from MA needs help?
Congratulations on your find! That's a very interesting looking rifle; pretty wood and some nice looking craftsmanship. It would be interesting to know why it had the work done and who did it.

Re: New Model 8 owner
I'm developing quite a fascination for the .25 Remington; a model 8 in .25 is working its way up my wish list.

Re: New Model 8 owner
[quote=...the believed cause of death was the mercuric primers weakening the brass and causing a complete casehead separation. [/quote] I've heard this too. Some of the old brass I've seen seems thinner than the new stuff -from chemical erosion, or whatever reason. New brass is available so I would ...

Same gun, 1930. My buck was much better -for packing out of the canyon! Grandpa shot a lot of deer, but took very few pictures.

Old Hunt, But Good Story: First Buck With Grandpa's Model 8
Here's a story from 1995 or 1996. It was the last day of a very meager deer season, and the likelihood of filling tags looked pretty bleak. I couldn't let the last day go by without at least getting out before being relegated to winding out the year hunting quail. It had been a dry Fall, with no big...

Another New Guy
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to everyone here. This is a great board and a wealth of information and I figured it was time to join! :D I've always been a little interested in Savage 99s, but don't have one. My grandpa had one in .25-35 Winchester back in the 20s, but sold it. I have ...
