Different. 2nd 81police's comment. Over the years I've seen pictures of a few other brands/models of firearms that had stocks different from the norm. Some looked interesting, others looked 'hinky'.

Re: New member with some questions!
Well I'm a bit late for the party, but 'Welcome' to ya from Iowa. As has been said, the 35 Rem and 300 Savage both use an extractor that is stamped '35'.Wondered about that also on my first 81 300 Savage. Everything I've read says they both take the 35 marked extractor and I've read 'alot'. My 2nd 8...

I'm a bit late in doing so but welcome from Iowa. Interesting rifle/codes. Hated seeing Remington announce the closure of its NY plant. As 'Roger' posted here in Iowa 8 and 81's aren't seen alot in shops or at gun shows. Many times the ones that are seen look pretty rough and have seen better days, ...

Re: Well I messed up!
I bought an 81 35 Rem some time back that had the grooves on the barrel nut washer pretty worn down. The barrel nut had sharp grooves, not sure why that was, possibly some owner some time back of the 1938 made 81 lost original, replaced it, or as one member here posted, the washer had softer metal, ...

Re: Manufacturing New Barrel Nut Washers - Preference
According to Henwood, Model 8's had both fine (40) teeth groves and course (24) teeth groves. Model 81's for the most part have the 40 (fine) tooth grooves. He advised in his extensive research he had only seen one 81 (a very early model #42) with the 24-tooth washer/nut combination. When I counted ...

Had a discussion on another forum about Graf's brass neck splitting. My first 81 (300 Sav) was giving me fits as far as bolt not locking back, stovepipes, poor ejection. Went to my local big box sporting goods store for a new bag and noticed the ammo being restocked. I asked the fella if he had any 35 rem half jokingly. Nice picture of your Remington's Mike. Also bench shot. Two of the 81's (300 Sav) I bought had so much gunk (dried grease/oil/dirt) in the internals and the barrel-shroud assembly I thought I might have to contact the EPA. My third (35 Rem) wasn't too bad. On the 300 Savage's there was an accumulati...

I did some searching early this morning about Remington and the wheel sight as it was called (#117-1/2) and apparently it was available on Model 14's until 1927, then dropped. Like has been said it is likely of a Remington 14 or some variation. I think it was called a Dockendorff rear sight. It does appear that since our discussions on this rifle that bidding has stopped.
