For Sale: Williams FP-81 Peep Sight

Don't really shoot my 81 too much anymore, and I can't use it for any useful hunting here in PA. So I am entertaining the idea of selling my William's FP-81 aperture sight. All there in great working order, just don't have the actual screw in peep aperture to go with it. I just used it more as a lar...

Re: Delete-Please

I'm looking to trade my Model 81 for a MKIII Browning HI Power. I doubt I could trade the 81 for the pistol gripped model 8 I want, but hopefully someone wouldn't mind parting for a Hi Power for one. After all I could always buy a 35 Rem pistol gripped model 8, but right now I'm really into Hi Powe...

Well I feel like a bonehead! (Face Smack). Went to a gunsmith, (Who was great btw, and is my guy from now on) Fixed the prblem in 5 minutes. The stock needed compressed HARD to get the screw in, now she's back together! Next ordeal is fixing the gouges in the pistolgrip from a cheap hollow ground sc...

Re: Stock troubles

Second Q what's an Auger? Never heard of them for small tool use . Looked them up and looks likes it rasps the outer edges of a hole. Don't the 81 stocks have a metal sleeve guiding the screw? Sorry guys trying to soak up the knowledge. Edit: You Guys are talking about using a tool to shorten the sp...

Re: Stock troubles

Yeah same problem here. I've had the buttstock off a couple times after I bought it and it went back on with no trouble. ( Although the screw angle seems steep and takes muscle to get the last bit in with the screw head angling through the last little bit of the bottom tang.) after shooting it for t...

still haven't got the stock bolt back in the 81, must've had something to do with shooting it. I got the pistol grip all buggered up, but that can be fixed later. I just can't get that damn bolt in, it wont event pass the head to try and engage the threads. I think whoever installed these parts at t...

I meant the threads to the top receiver tang, ( I swear this rifle has got me seing up and down, black and whit it's all I can do to think clearly.) Buttstock bolt lining up

I've have had the buttstock off numerous times and have been able to bolt them back on no problem. After going shootin I decided to detail strip the gun by removing the barrel and buttstock, I was going to remove the bolt but it looked clean so I figured I would oil it from the outsideside and just ...

Looking to trade my 1947 Remington 81 35REm for Remington model 8 with pistol grip stock

I have a Remington model 81 35 Remington caliber manufactured in 1947, (Which I nicknamed Roswell) in great condition. The rifle has a Weaver side scope mount base with Weaver detachable scope mount that has a mounted Weaver K4 scope with clear optics. I love the rifle, but after buying I really bec...

Re: Sem Pistol Grip Model 8 availability and tang sight Q's

Yep, I missed out on that Redfield 102N, I stopped at around $155. If I am going to mount anything on the 81 it will be a Williams FP-81. Just wondered about trying the 102N out before I go commiting it to a rifle. Even if a virgin 8 or 81 needed drilled for something like a 102N, I don't really thi...

Sem Pistol Grip Model 8 availability and tang sight Q's

I finally got my Remington model 81 in 35 Rem with side detach Weaver mount that houses a Weaver K4. ( will post pics soon after I figue out how ). Didn't come with a rear barrel sight so I first bought a Williams sight blank. (Love anything Williams as that is my last name). Just today though I rec...

Re: Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

Yeah, the seller still wanted $200 for the Marbles R6 sight, on top of the $750 for the rifle. I've been paying the rifle off via layaway, and a couple months in I decided a tang sight wouldn't be a bad add-on. I was too late, he already sold the sight. No big deal, the price wasn't vastly different...

Re: Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

Do the 8's and 81's all come factory tapped for tang sights, or is that done at an individual level? I know the one I got coming had a Marbles R6 on it. (Owner wanted extra for the sight, so I just opted for the rifle). So will any tang sight for the springpoles work? I've been leaning towards a Lym...

Re: Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

FP-81, should've known it would be something obvious like that. Gunbroker and eBay, my bread and butter. I usually peruse both for other items on my list, add an FP-81 to that. So I take it the FP stands for foolproof , meaning it's micrometer adjustable? Any way to add target knobs, or do they look...

Williams rear central mount receiver sight serial # or designation?

After careful consideration, I have decided on a rear sight setup for my model 81 35Rem. After contemplating a Williams square bridge shotgun receiver sight, and seeing pictures of it mounted on a model 8 I think I will pass on that option. The rear sight I have chosen is that center rear of the rec...

Re: Pics of 8 or 81 with Williams 5D or FP-SSM peep sight

It's already got the weaver detachable scope mount on it. There are also a couple of plugged holes toward the back of the receiver. The holes look close to the spacing needed for an SSM, if not drilling more isn't a big deal since it's a not a virgin receiver. While the 81 is already setup for a Mar...

Thanks, but unfortunately none of those pics show a Williams side mount peep sight.
Figured more people would have them on their 8/81 as it seems to be the only peep still made that fits the Remington.

Got my first Browning auto coming in a couple months, a Remington 81 in 35Rem. It's got a Weaver detachable side mount with a Weaver K4. Since you are not allowed to hunt big game in PA with an auto, (would absolutely love to use the 81 for deer) I figure it will make a great 'Bummin around the wood...

Re: Rear sight replacements for 8/81 barrel.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to make a screw blank then dovetail that. I was looking at those marble universal rear sights, the kind that slide on a angled base to adjust. I would need to get one for a 1 inch shotgun barrel, then possibly drill new mounting holes. Along with all that I got my e...

Re: Rear sight replacements for 8/81 barrel.

No ideas on a new replacement for a rear barrel sight? I don't want to go adding any extra holes if I don't have to. I figured something like those Williams windage and drift adjustable rear sights would be the ticket. Especially if they mount right up. Stock 8/81 rear barrel sights are going for $1...

I'm not even talking about taking apart the barrels and Frankensteining them. You have a 35Rem receiver already broken down for transportation, then you take a complete 300Savage front end and twist it into the 35Rem receiver. Now you have a 35Rem rear with a 300Savage front, would this work. Are th...

Model 81 pistol grip to Model 8 stock conversion

Hi all, new member here! Don't yet have an 8 or 81, but am looking to purchase my first one. Was originally wanting a straight gripped model 8 in 35 Rem, but am noticing that 81's are more readily available. Plus I like the upgrades such as a sling mount in the barrel jacket.
