Hello again
I have returned after a few years absence. A couple of months ago I found a 1914 vintage model 8A in good condition at a local gun store and I brought it home. I have always wanted a model 8; I have owned two model 81s in .300 Savage in the past. This one is in .30 Remington and I have scored some u...

Model 81 .300 Sav for sale
I have decided to offer my 1950 model 81 Woodsmaster up for sale to the members here. I would rate it at 90% condition. There are some pics of it in the Pics section under Thomas' model 81. It has some carry wear but no extra holes. Very good condition and functions perfectly. I am asking $650 and w...

Adam Lee- I can describe the marks on my model 81 better than I can photo/post them.... This stamp is also on the tr...

Thank you Cam for posting these. This is my 1950 .300Savage model 81. When I got it a few months ago the stock and forend had flaking varnish and some dents and scratches. I have a buddy who is very good with gunstocks so I asked him to gently restore it. I wish I had some before pics but you can se...

I just got my 81 back from a friend who is a wizard with wood. I asked him to remove the flaked varnish and steam out the worst dents from the stock. It came back beautiful with no lost character. Re: LOVE STORIES: Your first model 8 (or 81)
My first 81 was a .300 Sav converted to .308 by someone -they over stamped the last zero with an 8 and sort of polished the Sav off. I reloaded ammo using .300 Sav data and all was well. Sold it to my older brother and he just used regular .308 mil surp ammo by grinding or clipping the tips off! We ...

I was there also. The .308 conversion was a shame. I liked the .32 model 8 on the west end of the hall but alas I was there selling not buying. The pistol grip M8 you mentioned had some nice figured walnut though as did the M14 pump with the left hand cheek piece. I want a .32 model 8 badly... They ...

.250 Sav in a M 81?
This has surely been addressed before but why couldn't a M8 .25rem barrel be rechambered and installed in a .300 sav M81-no other changes? A.250 sav autoloader would be a HOOT!

Hi all. My Remington 81 experience started with a .308 conversion I got in trade for a Ruger 10/22. I test fired it behind a LARGE tree with a trigger string and all went well. I shot it for a summer with .308 starting loads and it was dead on. An older brother talked me out of it and he just clippe...

130gr at that velocity sounds safe enough. Stay a grain below max as long as it works the action. Full power loads in the .300 /81 make theirselves known on your collar bone. My first post!
