Re: 300 Savage - Reduced Recoil Load

BZimm and Bandersnatch (awesome username!), thank you for your input. Good to hear of some first hand experience with the recoil pad on this particular rifle / chambering combination. I have also discovered that freshly ejected cases from my 300 Savage Model 81 are unbelievably hot! As I prepared to...

Re: 300 Savage - Reduced Recoil Load

Thank you very much for the suggestions; greatly appreciated !

I will probably start with the 140 grain monoflex idea first.

I have fired a Model 8 in 32 Remington and a Model 81 in 35 Remington. The recoil in both of these rifles seemed noticeably less sharp than in my 300 Savage.

300 Savage - Reduced Recoil Load

I own a Model 81 in 300 Savage. As I have aged I seem to enjoy dealing with the recoil produced by this rifle less and less. So I am looking for some (at least one, anyway) reloading suggestions (powder / bullet combinations) to produce a round that generates significantly less recoil, yet will stil...

Re: Introducing Myself

Sir, I'm from Iowa too. I hunted with m8/81s in the late does season until last year, when they shut it down. I'm really disgusted with our DNR because of it. Let me know where you are located. Welcome aboard. You'll find that the members are helpful here. Thanks for your time, Roger Hi Roger I too ...

Re: Introducing Myself

whiterook, thanks joining! The 300Sav is such an awesome cartridge. How long have you owned your 81 or at least been interested in 8's and 81's? 300 Savage is indeed a terrific cartridge; a real game getter ! I personally think this cartridge is at its best with a 180 grain, round nose bullet. I ha...

Rear Sight Screw

What would be the correct size screws for the semi buckhorn rear sight on my Model 81 (300 Savage)? These would be the two screws which attach the sight to the barrel sleeve. I don't have the sight in my possession yet; just purchased it via online auction. But from what research I have done, it se...

Introducing Myself

Hi, from rural Iowa. I have a Model 81 in 300 Savage and hope to accumulate another (or several more) down the road. I have taken it hunting several times; unfortunately I have never seen deer while carrying it. But it is deadly on water-filled milk jugs and cans! I handload for 300 Savage, and my M...
