Re: Bolt not locking back when I pull the bolt back

Correct, the screw goes in with no issues without the stock. It is only when I try to insert the screw with the stock on that it doesn't line up correctly. And no amount of pressure on the stock is aligning it properly. The trigger group is properly installed.

Bolt not locking back when I pull the bolt back

I have a new purchase Model 8 (made in 1910) and when I manipulate the bolt and pull it back, it is not locking back. The bolt just goes forward. This is a problem. It is obviously not catching the bolt release. Any idea what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Well I picked up the old girl today. As we thought, its completely refinished but a nice job. One issue I noticed immediately is the bolt not locking back. When I pull it back, it just goes forward. I did a quick search on the forums but I couldn't find a good answer. Any idea what is wrong?

Thanks. Oh well. At least the restoration job looks to be done nicely and hopefully all the internal parts are present and she works fine. I don't plan to "fix" her. She looks fine as is, albeit restored. I always wanted a stock like this one. Hard to find in the early Model 8s.

Hello! I recently picked up this very clean Remington Autoloading Rifle dated 1910 in 35 Rem, which makes it pre-Model 8. Lubricating a Model 8/81?

What parts need lubrication? It seems there is little metal to metal contact in the bolt carrier group itself and when the bolt recoils against the receiver. The barrel and barrel jacket involve so much spring and buffer action that lubrication is not necessary. I think the only metal to metal conta...

It seems like the going rate for a Model 8/81 in fine/collector condition is $800-1200. If it has any special features or deluxe stocks around $1500-2000. I was shocked that some standard rifles with no deluxe features were going for $2000-3000 a few weeks back.
