Re: Model 8 fails to eject

HI Cedar. Hope all is well. Not sure if I am understanding properly. Not extracting or not ejecting? If you fire one round would the bolt lock back with the brass visible but not ejected or would the bolt lock back with the brass in the chamber not extracted? Very concerned about the dimple. Could b...

If you still have the problem don't forget the gunsmithing manual available for download on the main page. Page 12 has some other common causes of your problem.

Hi Cedar. We love questions! :D You can the check to see if the spring is correct or not visually (although if your mag is a dirty as this one you should clean it anyway). Re: Firing pin variants

Hi Cam. Thanks for the information. Time for me to buy a copy Mr. Henwood's book! The bolt for the two piece does indeed have a bushing. The retaining pins are shortened to allow room for it. The middle pin is from my 1940 81 in 300 savage and the bottom is from my 1915 model 8 in 35 rem.

I had not seen anything about the two piece before. It was in a bolt from a 81 mfg in 42.

Next off to the range to load one round at a time until I'm sure its not going to jam the pin in the forward position.

Firing Pin Retaining Pin

I bought a Model 81 with a broken Firing Pin Retaining Pin. There does not seem to be any available at this time. I can make a replacement but i am uncertain of the hardness for this pin. New owner of 8 and 81

Hi All. I was at my LGS a couple of months back and noticed some strange looking rifles in the rack behind the counter. As it turns out they were a model 8 in 35 rem and a model 81 in 300 savage. I had never seen them in person and went home to look them up. It was then that i found your great site ...
