Re: Serial number 20

I would like someone to chime in on the stamped letters on the forearm. I have never heard of any other rifle having it. I almost think it was not done at the Remington factory. I’ll see if I can get a better photo of it.

Re: Serial number 20

I picked up #20 the other day. The outside looks good, normal wear for light hunting. The inside was a disaster. It looked like the owner was afraid to disassemble the rifle for cleaning. I bet they shot degreaser into the receiver and then WD-40 followed by gun oil until the bolt stuck open. Needle...

Re: Serial number 20

I still have not picked up the rifle. Maybe this week. Washington state has “assault rifle laws” for all semiautomatic rifles and pistols which means I had to take a test and receive a certificate before they could do the background check. now they have 3 weeks to approve the purchase and I have to ...

Serial number 20

I am sure everyone saw #20 on gunbroker. I overpaid for it but I haven’t purchased a model 81 in a while and I really wanted one in 30 rem. We have stupid laws in Washington state so I won’t be able to pick it up for 3 weeks. When I do I’ll post some photos.

Model 8 marked 30-30R

I just received my 30 Remington dies. Loaded up a minimum charge of LVR under 150 Gr. RN. I am excited to see if my 1918 model 8 will run. My wife thinks I am crazy but I am stupid happy to make obsolete ammo and hunt with a 99 year old rifle.

Re: Model 81 bolt

Just to update anyone curious.. I bought another working bolt, installed it and everything works perfectly. I had a broken spring in the old bolt and will reassemble it when I find a new spring.

Re: Can We Discuss Specific Handloads For Model 8/81s?

I have been playing with hand loads for my model 81s in 300 savage and 35 Remington for about 5 years. I only use published loads and try to stay on the lighter side. For the 35 Remington I have two loads that work well. Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primers 200 gr ftx bullet 40 gr leverevolution 2000...

Re: Model 81 bolt

Thanks for the response. I should have made it easier on everyone by looking at a schematic and using the right terms for the parts. I have a model 81 in 300 savage that my grandfather bought new in 1949 that I have been using as reference while working on the new one. I can cycle the savage bolt by...

Model 81 bolt

I have a model 81 in 35 rem and the ejector won't grab the brass. I took the bolt carrier out and disassembled it. The bolt has a short spring in it but has no tension. In other words it is too short and does not push the bolt forward. I have another bolt that I installed and the spring has some ten...

Great site

New member here. I have used the site for research for a couple years and just decided to join. I inherited my grandfathers model 81 300 savage a few years ago. He bought it new and used it as his only hunting rifle for almost 50 years. It is in excellent shape. I have shot it at the range but haven...
