Re: brass catcher
I have been using a fishing net with a mesh small enough to catch your brass. This works for most semi auto rifles and pistols. Cut the handle to the height you need, then mount it to a "C" clamp ( or what ever clamping device works for you) When you are shooting, position the net close to...

Tang/aperture sight needed
Hay All, I have a nice Mod. 8 in 35 rem that needs a rear tang/aperture sight something that will use the existing hole, a marbles would be the ticket. I don't want to drill and tap. The rifle has a great long Adirondack history that was shared by the owner before selling it to me. I'll tell the sto...

Guns America has a nice chrome plated Model 8 in 25 Winchester Short Mag. You might have to dig deep into your references to find that one.

Re: Stripper clips
Another trick to try. When shooters started using the .223 for high power the manufacturers were not quick on the uptake and the clip slots were sized for the 308. What we did was to glue/weld 223 stripper clips into 308 clips some times you had to do some file work to get the smaller clips into the...

Stripper clips
Hay All, I have been reading some of you posts concerning stripper clips and the prices paid for clips for the 25.30.32 Rems. and it got me thinking. I shot high power for years and did it with a bolt gun using stripper clips for the reload in both .223 and 308. My model 81 300 savage runs great wit...

Re: Checkering
Thanks S&S, I didn't realize this sight had a home page. When I googled model 8/81 months ago this forum came up and I never searched any farther. Sorry to bother every one with my questions when most of the answers are on that page. The rifle I was looking out had totally different checkering. ...

Checkering
On the model 81 higher grade rifles, did Remington use a standard checkering pattern per grade, or was it random? Did Remington do the checkering in house or was it send out? I see some nice model 81's claiming to be grade b's and up but no two have the same checkering. They all look great but I wou...

kreiger conversion
Hay All: Could you give me an explanation of the Kreger Magazine conversion, who, what, where, when. Or point me in the direction of a link that explains it.
Thank you

Re: A great site for a new intrest
Had the old girl out today but the "dogs" were not hungry. I'm interested in the 25 Rem. as my next 8. Ammo would be my concern. I read in some posts that you can reform 30's but you have to leave a little original shoulder to resize correctly then fire form. Any help from the crowd on thi...

Re: A great site for a new intrest
Sorry Jim, I will soon be searching for another 8/ 81 and want to have brass on hand. I will be going to a gun shop soon that has lots of old ammo that's really buried in piles that have been there for years. Last year I found some real nice collector stuff. If I find any brass/ammo 8/81 related I'l...

Re: A great site for a new intrest
OK, so the model 81 has sling swivels. Did Remington offer the swivels as an option? or were they after market. I see gun parts has a rear swivel stud for the 81 but nothing for the front. Back in the day what company manufactured swivels for the 81? All right, only one more question. How far from t...

A great site for a new intrest
Hi All, Thanks to all the people who contribute to this site. I purchased a mod. 81 yesterday in 300 savage. I never thought much of the 8/81's in the past, kinda thought of them as fancy boat anchors. I live and hunt in the Adirondacks of NY and very much like the history of the region. One way to ...
