I've bought a couple of these things where the exterior of the barrel was heavily corroded. Didn't seem to affect function. As long as they could go back and forth in the jacket they worked.

200 gr bullets and IMR 3031 and you can't go wrong. Also, the Hornady Lever ammo shoots just fine out of these ole girls.

I like the movie generally, but one thing does rankle. Because of a rather limited budget the movie makes it look like Hamer took about a week to track down the outlaws, instead of several months.

I'm no gunsmith, but I'll take a look.... Seriously, if whoever built this used 300 Sav springs I don't see why it wouldn't work, provided that the barrel is thick enough. I'd be very wary of a rechambered 25 Rem tube, but if he used, say, a Savage barrel to do the conversion then you are probably O...

Re: Lubricating a Model 8/81?

Just my view: The bolt raceways, obviously. The bolt head, including the cam pin tracks and locking lugs, and the extractor. A dab of oil in the action spring tube, that's the one behind the bolt. This speeds up bolt movement noticeably. Not too much, as you don't want much oil getting back into the...

Yes, they do weigh a tad more. Personally, for hunting purposes, I like the extra weight. It helps dampen the fairly stout recoil and, for me, it was rather comforting. The gun felt solid, not squirrely, like some light weight rifles can be (I'm looking at you, AR15), and didn't move while on the re...

So, my plan this year was to take four rifles to the fields and take a deer and maybe a pig with each one. The Rem model 81, the Winchester 70, a Ruger 77 in 22-250 and the AR15 in 6.5 Grendel. I got close. As you see I got three deer with the Winchester and one with the 81. The AR15 accounted for t...

I have a 14 in 25 Rem. Something I learned early on is use only round nosed bullets. Anything else will hang up inside the feed system and you have to disassemble the gun to clear it.
