Bid on it, but dropped out. A pretty good price, IMO.

Krieger Remington model 81 in local gun store
I was poking around some of my local gun stores and ran across a Remington model 81 that had the Krieger conversion detachable magazine. The rifle was in nice shape, but the shop wanted $8500 for it!

Re: FBI Model 81
Thanks, Cam. I wondered if there had been some sort of switcheroo with the barrel/forend and what you suggest makes a lot of sense. I wondered what the "22096" stamped on the jacket head referred to. I double checked the barrel date code and will post better pictures. It is "ONN"...

Re: FBI Model 81
I finally brought home the rifle and got to look at it more closely. The rifle displays characteristics of both the early model FBI model 81 ("stacked" model, manufacturer and serial number markings on the receiver, Lyman 41 sight) and the later FBI model 81 (grooves in the barrel jacket, ...

Re: FBI Model 81
Nice Pics. I have the takedown screw, the sights, a 30R rifle. Just not the FBI rifle. TTHHHPPPTTT :!: :( Of course with the loss of the Remington records, documenting FBI rifles is near impossible. I noticed from your photos the rifle appears to be one with the brazed barrel jacket. Thats a reliab...

I got to my FFL and grabbed a few pictures of the rifle before it went into his safe for the 10 day cooling off period.

Re: FBI Model 81
One thing I'm interested in is finding out, if possible, what route these rifles took to get into the private market.

Re: FBI Model 81
Thanks, 81 and Rifleman. I'll post better pics when I pick it up from my FFL. Since Remington apparently does not have (or does not share) purchase or shipping records, perhaps a different approach might work. There is a website devoted to the "olden days" of the FBI..."Faded Glory Du...

Re: FBI Model 81

Re: FBI Model 81
WOW, finally a new post! Thought maybe everyone had given up on the forum. Nice gun, have yet to see a FBI model or any other 8/81 model other than standard ones in person. Nice rifle to get, you plan on shooting? I misread your post at first and thought you indicated you had won the 81 possibly at...

Re: FBI Model 81
dead ringer there CalFed. Congratulations! Would you mind sharing the serial number and we can add it into our FBI database? Thanks, Cam I won this at an online auction and as soon as it arrives, I'll PM you the serial number. It will be interesting to see whether it has ever shown up in your recor...

Re: .30 Remington Model 81
Hey CalFed, That is a nice looking rifle but I do not believe it is a FBI model 81 as described in Henwood's book. Your rifle does not have the Lyman 41R rear sight and the lettering on the receiver is of the standard model 81 format. If you look at your other posting about the auction of an Model ...

.30 Remington Model 81
I have a thing for vintage rifles used by law enforcement "back in the day". During the 30's and 40's, the FBI issued the Remington model 81 in .30 Remington and the Winchester '07 in .351 WSL. I was able to obtain decent example of both. Edit:( I do not believe either of mine are actual F...
