Yeah, that kind of price makes me happy I have a cheap "basket case" rifle I can shoot and enjoy, rather than another museum piece, mothballed in some dark hole for another 100 years.

Re: What are these two "spots" on the receiver?
They're rivets that hold a piece of metal in place on the inside of the receiver. That piece of metal depresses a lever in the bolt carrier that allows the bolt to rotate at the appropriate time as part of the "autoloading" operation.

I don't know where to look for one online. When you have tools, sometimes it's a better use of time to make new parts than to hunt down rare OE parts on the internet. I'm not saying it's easy to make them. I'm saying that if the OE parts don't exist, then it might be worthwhile to bring an uncommon ...

Re: Need Model 8 Firing Pin for 35REM
The FP retention pin hole is about 45˚ off level through the bolt carrier. In mine I drove it out from the bottom right, out the top-left. It only goes one way. If you tap on it the wrong way then it will bind the firing pin.
If you tap on it, and the FP tightens up, then go to the other side.

Sorry to hear about the pin. No, they're not all the same. I know that some have a spring and other, older versions do not. I am not a connoisseur of stripper clips or old mausers. I actually had a pocketful of 35 Rem brass when I went to a gunshow and some guy had ammo cans full of war surplus stuff. Yes, bottle-necked cases typically headspace on the shoulder instead of the rim (ala .30-30 Win) or the case mouth (9x19mm Luger). In most "modern" cartridges fired cases typically have enough pressure to expand the brass to fit the chamber to the point it it has zero room left to expand. ...

Yes, I can make that. But I don't have any personal experience with scout scopes and would need some rough dimensions for overall length, and where you'd want the rail in relation to the barrel yoke/jacket head (or other reference point). Expected height above boreline would be a good reference too.

Looking at the mechanism, I don't see much difference in function with a spring slightly longer or shorter than the factory piece. What is wrong with your short buffer spring that you are looking for a replacement? If your 1.970" length spring is being fussy, the first thing I'd do is to shim i...

Alright, the factory buffer spring's a stout little bugger being that it's a heavy square wire profile and only about 6 turns... It's hard to match that spring rate in a more conventional coil spring. If you assume it just has to be stiff enough to prevent the bolt/barrel assembly from crashing into...

Hodgdon says the max load for H4895 is 38.5gr for the Hornady 200 RN at an overall length of 2.510". Given the case capacity and large bullet diameter, overall length will play a major role in max pressure. Shorter OALs can raise the pressure significantly. You'll probably be fine, just be awar...

You can try to separate cases by brand so that "Remington" headstamp stays with the M81 and "Winchester" headstamp stays with the Marlin, etc.
Also, at least in my case, the M81 firing pin is huge compared to my other rifles, so fired primers are obvious what came from what.

If you're handloading then I'd suggest that you just neck-size the 35 Remington. It's low enough pressure that, once fired, it should still chamber easily and headspace should not require a Full Length sizing operation to be accurate and reliable. Just work up whatever load you want to use for your ...

It looks like the washer under the takedown screw is a lock-washer too. That might be contributing to why it's reluctant to loosen. Oil, heat and maybe some channel-lock pliers with some substitute brass jaws for extra torque without marring the finish.

If it looks pretty clean, and has lubrication in the bolt lug abutments and bolt cam pins, then go shoot it. If it cycles fine, then perhaps it doesn't need any TLC. Otherwise, with the right tools it should come apart fine. If you were paying attention you shouldn't have trouble with reassembly IMO.

First I'd check that the ejector plunger moves freely and has sufficient pressure to kick the case up and out of the way once the case clears the breech. This can probably be checked with empty brass cases. Chamber one and then pull the bolt back quickly and the case should get ejected with vigor. A...
